In reply to a previous question or two...I can access almost any show. Yes, I have Prime Video. So please forward your recommendations regardless of where you might have watched them.

Also, I do prefer higher resolution video. It doesn't have to be 4k or anything like that, but some of the older shows that are so grainy I probably wouldn't be able to get into. That's one of the reasons I requested something not toooo old in my op, like 2010ish or later.

Again, thanks for input so far. Keep the recommendations coming.

I just started watching lucifer....I know, terrible name and you think it's all about, devil, horror, and spooky......its not....its funny....give one episode a try...you might like it

Others...bloodline, last tango in Halifax, castratrophy,....I don't watch any scarey, violent, sci-fi, or Gothic stuff. I wanna to be entertained, laugh a little and if I find I'm thinking about the show latter after watching...its a good one.

We are re-watching Downton Abby on Netflix. Forgot how wonderful it was. We are really enjoying it.

You have a lot of great suggestions and I will add a few more.

NETFLIX- Outlander

HBO- Your Honor ( Bryan Cranston)

Have to agree with:

I would add Game of Thrones
and for an offbeat choice:

The Handmaid's Tale

And having a number of seasons "in the can" would be very nice too...

I like detective shows and such, but I am open to any type of series if it's interesting enough. To give you a clue to my tastes, in the past I've liked Monk, The Mentalist, some NCIS (the original is all I've seen), sitcoms and various other types of shows. I rarely get hooked on pure drama. Monk and The Mentalist which I mentioned above had something in common...very good detective plots with really fun main characters and a humorous slant in every episode.

Okay, I'm open to suggestions. Again, I will consider any show if it's good.

Anyone who lives in the Villages has to watch "The Kominsky Method!"

Since you like comedy, check out "Taskmaster". It is very funny and entertaining. It's described as a British comedy panel game show. Five contestants (mostly comedians) are assigned tasks to complete and are judged by the Taskmaster on how well they perform. His assistant runs the tasks.

You can find it for free on YouTube. Make sure it's the British version with Greg Davies.

The first episode of season 2 is a really good episode to watch to see if you like it.

It's very popular - they just finished series 11 and have been renewed through series 15. It's so popular that eight other countries have their own versions - the New Zealand version is pretty good and it's in English. The US version failed on Comedy Central mostly because they shortened it.

Red Rose 06-08-2021 03:59 PM

Try Schitt's Creek on Netflix.

SFSkol 06-08-2021 04:51 PM

Others that have not been mentioned:

Numb3rs on HULU - Mathematician helps solve FBI crimes.
Green Wing on YouTube free - best classic British humor since Fawlty Towers.
Person of Interest - on HBO MAX - Eye in the sky computer that predicts crimes.
Bones - on TNT - HULU - A forensic anthropologist solves FBI crimes.
Mozart in the Jungle - Amazon -NY Symphony Orchestra shenanigans.

I second that. If they could find the right person, like they did (IMHO) with Bosch, would love to see a Jack Reacher series. It has to be someone close to the 6'5", 250lb. guy in the books - not the 5'6", 150lb. movie version.

Steve Biasi 06-08-2021 06:06 PM

Monk was my favorite, also. As someone mentioned, Breaking Bad and it's prequel, Better Call Saul are great as well. Blacklist is another good one. Burn Notice and Early Edition were also good.

Jack Reacher would be a great character in a series and sure need a big fellow for the part. No idea what they were thinking when they cast Tom Cruise.

Lucifer

Try Lucifer on Netflix. Great series

MareL 06-08-2021 07:50 PM

El Ministerio Del Tiempo (The Ministry of Time)

Could not agree more on Netflix Lucifer. It is funny, crazy, who done it fun with a twist of British dry humor.

A series is in the works on Amazon Prime. Alan Ritchson (google him) plays Jack.

Boston-Sean 06-10-2021 12:40 PM

Most underrated show on TV

The Americans on Amazon Prime.

FX show about Russian spies living as Americans in DC during the Reagan years.

Ben Franklin 06-11-2021 11:42 AM

I forgot to add Fringe. John Noble does an excellent acting job.

Boomer 06-11-2021 12:31 PM

OP,

You mentioned sitcoms.

My absolute favorite of all-time is 3rd Rock from the Sun, starring John Lithgow. (I think he is a genius-actor who can play all kinds of roles.)

Lithgow and his pretend family are actually from outer space, have taken human form, and are trying to figure out how to fit in.

It ran from 1996 to 2001 so many of the pop-culture plots are a little dated, but you’ll remember them.

Sometimes observing human nature can make me feel like I surely must be from outer space. . .so maybe that’s why I like this show so much. . .

Polar Bear,

I know what you mean. Alas, I must confess that I have watched the entire thing through 3 times — since streaming was invented. (blush)

I felt a little better about my go-to escapism when I saw Lithgow being interviewed after he had played Churchill in The Crown. He said that 3rd Rock is what he likes to watch best — out of all his stuff.

Jane Curtin is the perfect foil to Lithgow’s character. And when William Shatner and John Cleese show up in various episodes, it makes the storyline even better. Jan Hooks was terrific, too, as Harry’s love interest. The Thanksgiving scene that was a riff on the same kind of scene in the movie Tom Jones (based on Fielding’s novel) is scandalously funny.

Uh, oh. . . I feel a 4th run coming on. :)

Boomer

PS: A question for Bosch fans: I thought Mr. Boomer would like it — and he does. We started at the beginning. But here is what I need to know: Does it take the entire season for one case to be solved? This case in the first season is creeping me out. I think New Tricks is more my speed.

It’s been awhile since I watched Bosch S1, but I think the entire season (about 6 shows) centers around 1 main case. Read the books, they are excellent reads.

Boomer, season one of Bosch was pretty gritty but still got me hooked. Each season is different. Season 7, the final season, is being released Friday, June 25th. Still time to binge.

TV was not watched in hour home, except for Sunday evening, Disney, in color at grandparents house. And once for the 3 solid days of President Kennedy’s funeral.
So using Utube TV I watch sitcoms from the beginning to end. Right now it’s Bewitched, no thinking needed, plus you can multi task, and still know what’s next. After that
Bull
Big Bang
Young Sheldon (helps if your child was a young Sheldon)
All Rise

Kelevision 06-13-2021 05:05 AM

If you’d like to branch out a bit. I’ll recommend Mare of Eastown on HBO, Breaking Bad is one of the best shows ever but not sure it’s for you, very dark comedy/drama but it’s not lighthearted. Maybe White Collar or Phych would be close, sans the great comedic acting of Tony Shaloub. If you really want to branch out and go completely crazy but watch a great show….. Umbrella Academy on Netflix.

Betty Wagner 06-15-2021 09:03 PM

Murdoch Mysteries on Ovation. Also, Midsumer Murders.

Bay Kid 06-16-2021 06:51 AM
