I recently received a large packet of information from my home owner insurer prior to renewal of the policy that included a "Notice of Premium Discounts for Hurricane Loss Mitigation". You can get a free home inspection by going to www.mysafefloridahome.com or by calling toll-free 1-866-513-6734. This is mainly an inspection of the roof and how it is attached but also includes shutters. Based on the inspection you may be able to save as much as $500 on your insurance premium. Good Luck!

When we have our Gardenia built in perhaps June 2009 will we still need an inspection as well to receive this Insurance discount?

Depends on your insurer. Our home with Travelers requires the initial inspection. Our other home is insured with ASI and they go by the year built.

The My Safe Florida home free inspections is over. If your building permit was pulled after the 2001 Florida Building Code went into effect you only need to prove you have a hip roof vs gable roof to receive the majority of the credits. There are some insurance agencies in the area that give the loss mitigation credits on new homes automatically. Check around, you may be surprised to find that you can save $$ without getting the inspection.

We have a hip roof . When we insured our home (built in 2004), we were not asked about the type of roof.

We had a free MySafeFloridaHome inspection last year which confirmed we have a hip roof and suggested we were elegible for an insurance discount. That was the first time we knew a hip roof would qualify for a discount.

We only received the discount after we asked for it and provided proof to our Insurance Company. I guess if you don't ask, you don't get.
