Vick did his time. It was a very bad thing he did. People do things but also deserve a second chance.
Heck you got a receiver, Dante Stallworth playing for the Browns. Hits a man while drunk, kills him and receives 30 days in jail for the DUI, house arrest. but you hear more about Vick and his dogs than you do this cat killing a Human Being and only getting 30 days in Jail. Vick go what 23 months..

G, that's my point. When does it stop. These guys are out of control and don't deserve to play their sport. None of it is right but its got to stop. Believe me, I'd forgive, but not reward his cruelty and abuse. I can't even imagine the pain and suffering those animals felt during his selfish abuse of them. I'd like to gouge out his eyes for what he did. Oops, am I being too harsh??

good!!!

Default Second Chance YES, just not in professional sports

Everyone does deserve a second chance, but this type of crime should not be rewarded with a second chance in Professional Sports, what message do you think this gives to the kids. Do I think Vic is sorry, no! Did you not watch the 60 minutes interview, check out the 60 minutes website and review the entire interview folks, his reponses were coached to him...listen to each interview trailer...if he was sorry for his actions, he would NOT need a team of lawyers and PR people to help address replies to the questions. To be sorry for one's actions, should come naturally people. Yes, he is sorry...sorry that he got caught, and trusted that he was SO big to the NFL would just turn their back if he got caught!!! He was a grown man people, don't tell me he did not understand how wrong and hateful this was, to say...this is how I grew up.....please....second change....yes....doing something else and proving to us that he deserves to be back in the NFL...shame of the NFL commisioner

Thumbs down No Second Chance!

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree with the "second chance" givers on this one. Yes, there are many times or reasons people do deserve a second chance, but the abuse of an innocent animal or child is not one of them. Many, many people look at their pets (including me) as their children. They are innocent and vulnerable and want nothing more than to please and give love.

My hubby is a retired Veterinarian and I've seen the abuse and stupidity some people can inflict on poor defenseless creatures. This was NOT tolerated in our clinic. If abuse was suspected, we treated it the same way suspected child abuse would be... we notified the authorities. And it was nowhere near the scale of the viciousness that Michael Vic demonstrated. An "I'm sorry" doesn't cut it on this one. Noooooooooo Way!!!

By signing him on, the Eagles have sent a message out that this is OK. That the pain of another living thing does not matter when it comes to money. They make me as sick as he does.

We should all be working, boycotting, writing, etc. to get make sure our athletes remain the role models for our children, that they should be. Hey, they signed on for this... they get the big bucks... it's more than just playing the game! My heart broke when they caught Michael Phelps smoking a bong. OK, he's a kid. I get it. But, how stupid can he be! I thought of the many little boys and young men that could think "Oh, this is a Gold Medal winner, so this is all right then." NO!!!! It is not all right! None of it is all right! From the gambling, to the steroids, to the animal abuse... it must stop somewhere!

Boycott the teams, and most of all the TV sponsors that put up with this. Hit them in the pocketbooks from another direction. Where are all the "family value" people on this subject!

Michael Vic is not a man. Anyone that abuses animals is as low a form of life as child abusers in my book. NO! This is not OK! His "I'm sorry" just doesn't cut it. Like some have said, "I don't think he's sorry, I think he's sorry he got caught." There's a vast difference.

When teams sign players like Vick, it is for one reason and one reason only and that is MONEY!!!. If an orginization thinks an individual like Vick will help bring them a championship, then they feel it is worth the heat they will get from doing so. This in turn makes the whole Eagle orginization maybe not as bad as Vick but extremely close. As long as owners of these sport franchises continue to seek to "win at all costs" and the fans continue to pay the outrageous prices for the tickets to see them, it will continue. Instead of being rewarded with a $1.6 mil contract he should have received a job emptying Port o Johns at $10 a hour

Default Priority = money...morals are an after thought (maybe).

The NFL did not ban him from coming back at the time he was convicted, leaving the option to return open.
They know the public has a short memory, hence the calculated risk.
It may be another story if he does not perform.

What message do these types of actions and reward send to the upcoming youth?

I watched Vic's 60-Minutes interview. I don't think he's remorseful. I think he's sorry only about one thing - that he got caught.

I agree with Russ that we may feel his debt will never be paid and I totally agree with you on the message it sends our children.

Much of the sports (and entertainment) world sends bad messages to our kids - not finishing school, special treatment in college, ridiculous salaries, steroids, drugs alcohol, getting off easy with crimes (Ray Lewis, Dante Stallworth, etc etc etc).

The only fix is for all of us to get so fed up that we don't buy tickets - but that doesn't seem to ever happen. So maybe we are sending a bad message as well....

So you all think Michael Vic doesnt deserve a second chance even after he has paid his debt to society? Why not hang him? Or send him to the electric chair? What the he$$ do you want from him?

Pedophile priests, sexual offenders of all kinds, murderers, spousal killers and abusers get a chance to rebuild their lives (have you ever heard of parole, probation, counseling, house arrest?) but not for Vic because his crime involved dogs?

I'm a pet lover but let's face it -- a dog is not like us, a dog is not human, a dog is not a baby, a dog is just that ..a dog i.e. a pet. Love them and treat them well. But in the overall scheme of things, dogs are not on the same level of priorities as humans.

Wow... some are advocating that Vic be strung up and tortured. It wasn't that long ago there was a passionate thread in another forum about the use of torture (in that case as an interrogation technique against suspected terrorists who want to kill us).

Also, it's (sadly) very risky to consider professional athletes as role models--especially for our children.

I agree that he deserves a second chance, maybe not to the tune of 1.6 Mil. Maybe they should take some of his money and donate it to the place most of his dogs went to to help them out. What ever it might be, still deserves a chance. Not up to us to decide what kind of chance he will get. There are more important things than what kind of deal Vic gets. Like I said earlier in this thread, Got a guy that kills another Human Being and dont get this much attention. Talk about priorites wrong????

I have never undertood why they pay pro athelets so much money. But when you got people paying that much money to go watch a game and so on, you see why. I have only been to 2 baseball games and 2 football games in San Diego. That wasnt worth it.

That is why I love College action. Now there are real fans..

Vick is just joining another looser, Mc Nabb. The Philly fans will have a ball when Vick fails on the field. Just watch the sports channels when it happens. He will hope that he gets traded.

If Vic thinks the fans can be bad, wait till the Phila. media goes on the attack! Talk about brutal; they can be merciless!

Default Animal Abuse

I happen to think that people who bring their pets to town square at night, in the middle of the summer, have them lay on the concrete that has been absorbing the sun's heat all day, are committing animal abuse. Should they be banned from the Villages?

Couldn't have said it better. Philly fans are the toughest. You'll hear them
boo-ing all the way down here!

Can't miss the first day he takes the field in Philadelphia
