MVP Garage Door Opener
I’m fixing to replace our MVP opener and am considering the Chamberlain wifi opener. Anyone else have one of these units who might offer any feedback? Thanks

Both my neighbor and myself bought Chamberlain openers and are quite happy with these. We did the installations ourselves. In both cases we were able to use the original MVP mountings with slight modifications to the original metal pieces between the opener and the piece on the ceiling. Send me a PM if you would like to discuss the details.
NOTE: while one person can do this it is much easier with 2 people. My neighbor has upgraded remote controls so the car can open the garage door, I have the simple remote and push button controls. Also, with some care, you can reuse the original wiring for the door sensors.

I replaced the original MVP opener with a Chamberlain belt drive WiFi opener and it is very quiet.
Plus I can close or open it from my phone. |

I have both brands (without WiFi) and like both. Have not been able to cost justify an opener with a battery back-up.

You can make any brand a wifi door opener for about 100.00. No removing whatever brand of opener you have, leave it in place and install a wifi enabled switch to control the opener. I will show you mine if you want to see how it is done.
Edit to add: Before some rushes in with some Google results that this can be done for less than 100.00, it can. For under 12.00 in fact for a basic circuit which requires some technical knowledge, to 29.99 for a packaged system which is similar to the Chamberlain system. To the 100.00 system which ties into other smart home devices using several platforms such as wifi, zigbee, smart home bridge, and smart speakers. Why you want a cheap system is obvious but if your wife wants the capability of the garage light to come on (in addition to the opener light) when the door opens after dusk for five minutes and the light in the first room in the house, then you want the 100.00 system. It works great for late grocery store runs BTW. Since I have gotten PMs on this No, MVP openers do not have any special technology which prevents adding Wi-Fi capability to them. No garage opener does, they all can be converted. So far I have converted MVP, Chamberlin (non wifi), and Craftsmen over. Five openers, two homes. Last edited by Toymeister; 09-25-2019 at 06:28 PM. |

Installed one about a month ago. Very quiet and the remote has a good range. Purchased at Lowe’s. Install took a few hours. Very happy with the reduction which is rated #1 in some reviews.
