Default Need Advice

I have been reading TOTV for a long time now. Everyone is always so helpful so I thought I would ask some advice.

I came up with an idea for a product. It actually was never intended to be used by anyone other than myself, but when people seen me use them, they would all comment "what a great idea...you should sell them". I never made much of it until last year when I was put to part time at work. With all that free time on my hands, I decided to make some to sell at a craft show.

People told me to file for a patent (which I have done - although I am not sure if I should have gone down that road). I got very good feedback at my craft show as well.

When we were visiting my husband's family in Iowa, they took me to a little boutique and introduced me to the owner. She took a look at my product and said she would be willing to sell it at her store.

Here is my problem. She wants me to give her a display and package my product so it would sell. She said it should be clear enough that people could read the package and understand what they are and how to use them. I have created a simple package for my craft shows - but that is not professional enough to place in a retail store. I just don't know where to start. I have looked up some companies which market products, but they are way out of my price range.

My product is unique and you don't see it anywhere else. I know people love the idea. Since many of you have had such wonderful jobs before you retired I know someone out there can lead me down the right road. Where would you go to get something to look professional so I could sell it in a store without spending a ton of money to get started? Should I try to sell my idea to someone else who could actually do a good job marketing the product (without stealing my idea and leaving me in the dust)?

I just don't know how to make the next step. I feel like a dog chasing it's tail......

Today there are so many software products out there that you can do about anything at home with a computer and decent printer. I know someone who designs all kinds of things that look very professional. If you PM me with more information, I may know how to help you.

oot, contact your local community college and see if they have a Small Business Center. Most community colleges do have one. They are part of the US Small Business Administration. They can help you with everything you need.

They are designed to help people just like you. They can help with micro loans and business plans and put you in the right direction. There is no charge for their advisory services since the program is state funded you are already paying for their expertise.
