Jane,

I agree it is wrong to label a whole group for the failure of a few. Psychology is a very misunderstood profession to be sure. When I was an educator I was able to find a few really helpful ones.

BUT.... It is becoming more and more an exact science as we can image the brain and understand more about how it functions and malfunctions. There are some very good people who are psychologists and some on this forum who have labored long and hard in that field. Not all psychologists are clinical psychologists and not all psychologists are as effective as often as people wish they were. Some are really out there, but that is true of every profession. If common sense could be packaged and sold, some people still wouldn't buy it.

You are so right, and I hope my post was not taken as painting the whole profession with a broad brush of stereotyping. Our family has benefited hugely from an extremely astute, wise and godly clinical family-marriage counselor (psychologist). I was expressing my frustration with the fact that so many of these killers and offenders were known to be dangerous out in society when they were released from jail/penitentiary. I meant to comment only on the psychologists/psychiatrists who are involved in releasing convicts so heinous and mentally ill that most people would say they are impossible to ever "cure" or rehab completely.

Here is an article that touches on just some of the terrible consequences:

And then we have those who will label you a "racist" if you report a person of color or minority ethnicity, for acting like the AZ or VA Tech shooter.

The person reporting such a ticking time bomb can easily be made the villain now, simply by calling them a "racist" or a "bigot" over and over in the media...

Yep. Remember how after 9/ll the government kept saying "Report anything suspicious!" Then late at night at a diner a woman hear some Arabic looking guys discussing what sounded like a terrorist plot. She called the police. Turned out she was right, but it was their idea of a joke. She, of course, was smeared by the press as some sort of goofy redneck racist.

What about the folks who pointed out the intentionally suspicious behaviour of "the flying Imams?" When the dust finally cleared the Imams got a nice cash settlement and somehow everybody else turned out to be a bunch of haters and racists.
The government and lawyers are teaching us to just shut up.
