Happy to report we rec'd no damage from Irene. Very heavy rains, probably the hardest I've ever seen it rain, but no trees came down nor did we lose power!!!!! Still a little windy as I write this but we know it's on it's way further North. Some of the areas around us are without power which started last night after midnight and I'm sure there is major beach erosion but all in all I think the Jersey Shore escaped major destruction.

While our SI, NY home has no power, the storm did little damage. Most of the flooding was to the C and D zones.......

My sister in Asbury Park / Ocean Grove is fine but flooded on one side and no electricity. A large tree down near a house they own but luckily missed the house.

FINALLY got a computer connection!!! not the best speed - but a connection! made it thru the hurricane with all of the shingles, plants and the pool as good as before it came! but others in town - not so lucky! a mini tornado spawned along the beachfront [just a llittle more that a mile away] and lifted the roof off of a condo bldg and dropped it a short block away on the ocean blvd at 1 in the morning! emergency responders came from miles around to assist with the injured and those in need of evacuation! never left the house today, so can't report on how much beach eroded - but i'll bet it's a lot! south of us in asbury park the ocean surge moved concrete and wood benches some 8/9 ft from a boardwalk railing into the middle of the boardwalk! north of us a sink hole developed on the ocean ave to the north side of sea bright. in the town of spring lake the ocean covered the beach and tore up a beautiful boardwalk that ran the length of the town - boards look like a roller coaster track! basically our town fared well with only flooding in the expected areas and the one major disaster at the condo bldg. no first responders reported serious injuries and the volunteers who were on standby even got some rest after about 4 in the morning...until late this morning! the paid crews and volunteer fire crews have been running ALL DAY LONG to investigate downed wires...cable and tele can be ignored and left for residents to contact providers...but the downed power wires are a MESS! and the winds have been too strong for the electric company bucket trucks to go up in the air for repair! i wouldn't mind if my ac had a brief power failure - now that hubby is home from his standby day he has the cooling down to igloo level! i will shortly don my sweats and mock turtle neck shirt and just enjoy his being home from the 'wars' as well as the fact that we have power - for now! until i can connect again - ciao!

NJ. glad you are ok. The pictures posted on facebook are amazing. So mamy of my old stomping grounds appear to be flooded. Irene may have come ashore as "just" a category 1 or tropical storm, but she made herself felt!

thanx for the good wishes! awoke to a beautiful sunny day and life is getting back to normal for most of us in central n.j. - those in northern and western sections of the state are still reeling from flood waters

glad to be a state worker retiree, too! traffic getting into trenton this morning was nothing short of traffic knots - not just snarls! flooded roads and detours kept most everyone from getting to work on time! so glad it wasn't me!

? of the day - does hubby take the unused generator back to home depot now, save it 'til the day before the return policy expires, or offer it up on ebay/craig's list? have made enuf decisions myself - this one is his!

We live over 150 miles north of New York City in the home my parents built about 57 years ago. Our NYS village is where the Hudson River and the Mohawk River meet, about 10 miles north of Albany. There have been several floods here over the years, but only about two times have the floods affected our home. We are about two and a half blocks away from the highest point the water normally reaches during a flood, but we're affected today by storm drain backup.

So here, 7 weeks before we make the permanent move to TV, the unexpected happened! We again got hit this afternoon. It's not as bad as many have experienced, but we did get a few inches in our basement this afternoon. Packed boxes are affected, but we won't know until tomorrow afternoon after we're pumped out what the damages are. Anyway, our power co. just arrived to turn the power to our furnace off so it won't be damaged. Oh well, such is life and my best wishes go out to those who have more serious situations than I do to deal with!

Thanks guys, we should be ok by tomorrow night! BTW Bill, can you ship me a couple of crates of popcorn? I think it will help absorb the excess moisture after the pumping! Ah, never mind! It'll make too much of a mess to cleanup afterward!
