Default Old Town, Kissimmee

Anybody been to Old Town in Kissimmee? I just found out they have a great cruise in on Friday and Saturday evenings and will want to check it out at least one day while I am in TV in December.

On December 10, 11 and 12 there is a trade show in Orlando called the PRI (Performance Racing Industry) and that is only about 7 miles from Old Town. So I am looking at the possibility of making the trip to Kissimmee maybe that weekend.

Now Kissimmee looks to be a little south of Disney so what would be the best route to take to get there and about how long of a drive?

Oh yeah is anyone has a ticket to the PRI show and is not going to use it I sure can put it to good use. Went to the show one year when it was held in Columbus Ohio and back then it was unreal. The show has moved around and gotten a whole lot bigger over the years and has anything and everything for anyone interested in all forms of auto racing.

We have been to Old Town a number of times when we had a vacation home down the road from there. Nice place with a bunch of small stores and some restaurants. There are a few rides for entertainment also. The complex is built with a two lane road in the middle of it, which accesses the parking area and the stores face the road. When they have the cruise-in the cars then park on this road. (At least that is how they were doing it the last time we were there in 2004). It is right off route 192 and if you do not know the area that is basically the tourist district, so depending on the time of year you can expect a bit of traffic. From TV I think the quickest way to get there would be the FL turnpike to 429 to 192. Time wise maybe 1hr 10min. If you have not seen it they do have a web site: http://www.old-town.com/

Another way to get to Kissimmee and Old Town, an area that we just absolutely love, is to just drive straight down (south) on Highway 441/27 from TV, and stay on Hwy. 27 when 441 branches off to the left/east, and eventually turn left (east) off of Hwy 27 onto Highway 192, which takes you into the Old Town/Kissemmee area. That way, you can see more of the area, such as driving through Leesburg and Clermont on this route, and start to learn your way around. It is a nice, scenic drive.

This route may take a little more time, though, because of traffic; so as said earlier, the fastest route would be going down Hwy 301 and taking the Fl. turnpike over to the Kissemmee exit. Being near so many great places like this is just another great feature of living in TV.

The calendar has already been marked for that afternoon and evening to be spent at SS with camera in hand. See you then if not sooner at Crispers.

Looking at Old Town on Sat Dec 12 or possible Dec 5. Then again maybe both days.

On Sat the cruise in is for 1974 and earlier while on Friday it is for 1987 and before. I am much more interested in the older stuff that the newer.

Thanks Freeda for the information, I will be mapping out the routes you mentioned later today.

Default Old Town Cruise In

My wife and I have a time share about 1 mile from there and have been going there for over 20 yrs. We never miss the chance to go to see the oldie but goodies. It's got everything, a British Pub, outside entertainment, shops, places to eat. It's about 2 miles North of I-4 on 192. Parking is a bit of a headache, it's free just very crowded. The cars don't start their cruise until nighttime. Then everyone lines the 1 street like a parade. Pretty cool. When you are there check out the General Store at the far end. Cheap beer and soda just like the good ole days... THere is also alot of neat novelty shops. You will enjoy the evening. Have fun and drive safe. One thing, while they have old cars on both Friday and Saturday,... Saturday has the most cars to show...

Ohhh, is it only a two seater?? That's okay, Pauline can sit on the hood and do her parade wave!!!!

(Only kidding, P..... I would never do that to you, girlfriend !!! )
