And you know this.....HOW? |
Years ago our church had a program for helping needy folks and my husband and I were on a list to be called when needed. No cash was ever given. We often delivered groceries for single moms and their families. One time we were contacted about a needy single man. A motel room had been provided for him and we were asked to give food. My husband took the groceries we bought that could feed him for several days. He refused the food and said he wanted to be taken to a restaurant for dinner. That was the last time we volunteered for this. We helped serve meals at a shelter instead. We never give anything to panhandlers.

This is not the 1930s when most homeless and unemployed were rendered so by the dust bowl, the Great Depression resulting after the stock market crash and indeed worldwide economic devastation. Today numerous employment opportunities are available and many jobs paying well remain unfilled. Today's homeless choose not to work. They receive government handouts, including free cells phones, and free medical care compliments of us hard working taxpayers. Almost all but the occasional unfortunate are worthless parasites. They elect to drink, drug and loaf.

2. Some do drugs but the majority do not. Depending on the job, we'd test them. Most would pass. Most don't drink any more than the people in the squares every night. 3. Loafing? They have it down to a science! |

Please just speak your mind as you see it. if you curb your wording in fear of hurting someone's feelings then you are not promoting "Your" truth, but someone else's truth.
If I see people begging then I see someone(s)who decided not to work for a living. if I decide they appear to be of a certain nationality(say hispanic or mideastern)then I will say so. if someones feelings are hurt then perhaps they require a reality check as to what constitutes a democratic republic based on the individual giving it their all. |

I don’t give money to panhandlers, as I don’t have the life skills to know who are scammers and who are not. I also don’t have the knowledge to know who is wacko or not.
Just read this the other day. Makes me not want to help except at/for St. Vincent DePaul or food banks. Utah homeless man Eric Jones allegedly slit woman's throat after she let him into her home |
I personally don't give money to those asking for it, but every so often I'll see someone just sitting on the curb or under a tree in an out of the way location, who are obviously going through a rough spot in life - so I may help them a bit. The vast majority of my philanthropy however, goes to vetted organizations who I know pass a high % of my donations to those they support.
