I personally don't give money to those asking for it, but every so often I'll see someone just sitting on the curb or under a tree in an out of the way location, who are obviously going through a rough spot in life - so I may help them a bit. The vast majority of my philanthropy however, goes to vetted organizations who I know pass a high % of my donations to those they support.
