The Hilton in downtown Atlanta is also dog friendly. Most Hilton brand hotels take pets.

Check the pet fee on the Hilton, though. We used to stay at the one in Ocala on the way to Key West. It was $25 for the pet. Then it was $50. By the time it went to $75, other hotels (not as nice, I admit) were becoming pet friendly.

It may have come down due to competition.

My favorite dog-friendly hotel is Loewes across from Vanderbilt University in Nashville. It is pricey and charges for parking, but the rooms are beautiful. And they go all out for the dog, bringing snacks, bowls & a mat, and a room service menu for pets. Plus the Vanderbilt campus is right across the street and beautiful for a walk. Well lit after dark.

The Loewes in BNA is a fabulous hotel. Back when it was called the Vanderbilt Plaza the bar had the best selection of antique single malt scotches I I have ever seen or tasted.

My dog is English so he prefers room temperature beer. However I believe I might enjoy a taste or two with your husband myself.

For all cat lovers, LaQuinta welcomes fur balls, too. All pet owners should remember the places suggested just in case a storm is headed this way and you decide to leave the area.

And birds. :-)

Drury Inn and Suites in Marietta GA. Happy hour and dinner and full breakfast all included. Dogs allowed. Right off the highway. Great place!

I second Drury Inn, I seek them out on planned route and call ahead to insure room.

We travel with two black labs and always stay at La Quinta's. The rooms are always clean, modern and larger than most motels. Very animal friendly and no additional charge.

Thank you to everyone for all the replies to my question.

As things turned out, we stayed at the Drury Inn in Marietta. We liked it. It appears to be well managed. (I was wondering who owned Drury so I looked it up. Family owned. I read a short article on their history. Interesting.)

The food available on site is so nice because the last thing I want to do after a long day in the car is to get back in the car and go searching for a restaurant.

We will stay there again, even without a pet. Marietta is about 6 hours from TV. We used to drive to TV in one day but then I played my princess card and said I was tired of that hour after hour after hour blur of a drive down I-75. Marietta is about half way.

Happy you found a wonderful place. We love it there, too! Maybe we will meet one day over drinks or breakfast!

That could happen, Fraugoofy. :beer3: I think we have found our halfway stop.

The thing that really surprised me was the variety of food offered in the evening as part of the stay. There were enough choices to make a little dinner, including a nice selection of salad stuff.

It is fun to watch the dogs check in. I kept watching for those dogs that drive a Subaru.

CFrance 10-09-2015 08:55 AM

Do keep in mind that one or both of those places only does the food on week days. Supposedly it is for business travelers

Boomer 10-09-2015 09:40 AM

Thank you for letting us know that, CFrance. This was our first Drury, and also the first time, in a long time, that we made the trip on a weekday. I also was surprised about the 3 free drinks from the little bar.

Drury Marietta is a place we will definitely try again, but it is good to know that my salad days probably will be only on weekdays.

We plan to stay in Marietta at the Drury Inn again on the way back. But in case we get a little farther into the trip, does anyone have any experience with a pet-friendly hotel along I-75 in Chattanooga? (I did not find a Drury in Chattanooga.)

Thank you.

I do! but I have to do some digging to find which one it was. I will PM you later today, unless I can find it right away.
