Doesn’t it depend on the disaster? If there are huge tidal surges and tidal waves, being on a super yacht may not be prudent. After all, I’ve been in the North Atlantic and seen what waves can do to Navy ships built far stronger. More so, a super yacht is only as secure as the tactical team onboard to defend it. A simple air drone strike launched from well… anywhere… can end that party quickly. So, no, I wouldn’t waste my money on that idea.

One thing I do think about though is space exploration. Stephen Hawking encouraged development of another colony. If the planet does become uninhabitable, Mars may one day be an option and I would hope that those chosen would include a spectrum of talented individuals that can contribute to each other’s survival and not on their material wealth.

I have to admit (well, I don't have to but, I am going to) that every time I read someone posting that they have guns to defend themselves in the post-apocalypse that the image of an M1 Abrams coming up from underground and rolling up in front of dozens of people holding their automatic rifles and wearing their flak jackets...

Maybe being well-armed will help deal with unruly neighbors, but If I am a billionaire, I will see your automatic rifles and raise you an armored battalion...

Just saying.

And the Vietcong and Taliban will see your bet and re-raise you...

Neither have been defeated by multiple armored battalions......

If there is an apocalypse, money will be worthless (bitcoin too).

Well, I guess I don't understand the concept of criminals when there is no law - or government.

And no, I personally would not fear billionaires, that is not my point, my point is the guys with the most power (weapons?) will make the new laws. I expect I would be ignored by both sides since I have nothing they would be interested in.
