Her reign of 70 years was incredible.
Thankfully she died peacefully surrounded by her children.

The world needs more people like her. And end of an era. Will miss her.

Beautiful and loving to the people, she was what a queen should be like. I was born after she became queen, so 70 years is amazing. Charles on the other hand with Camilla, good luck!

For me, a time of mourning. I will miss her.

She did lose her husband recently, she just recently went through Covid, she was 96 years old… perhaps it was time, her duties were done.

What are the odds that Charles will abdicate soon after the pomp and ceremony is over, in favor of Prince William? From what I've been reading Prince William has been being groomed by his grandmother and more or less has been calling the shots for the family for some time now.

Haven't been able to verify this...apparently some months back there was some scheduled ceremony or other and Prince Andrew (not one of the Royal's favorite sons esp. w/his connection to Jeffrey Epstein) wanted to attend. Prince William basically drew the line, saying that if Andrew attended, he wouldn't. Andrew didn't.

William is well-liked. Charles? Well...

Look around the world and see that countries with a monarchy are very stable. The countries that have overthrown their royals have declined into 3rd world powers. America is right now a viable country, but many people want to tear up our democracy.

I would just point out that, it may appear that the British monarchy spends a lot of money, but their entire budget is about $120 million per year. By comparison, the White House budget for staffing, travel, and security is $1.4 billion. That is about 12 times as much.

plus the Monarchy brings in hundreds of millions of pounds each year from tourists who would otherwise not visit the UK or would not stay as long

For anyone interested.
The Crown Estates made Net revenue profit: £312.7 million 2021/22
The revenue from those estates go into the public purse.
Over the last 10 years £3 billion has been put into public spending.
The Royals put a lot more into, than they take out of the Exchequer.

it's truly a sad event. the UK side of the family is hurt, as we, the US side are. Part of me can't help but wonder if the heartbreak over harry caused some of the misery she was put thru

My personal opinion is apart from age, the light seemed to go out in her when Phillip her husband died.
Don't think the negative situations around Andrew and Harry helped, but think Phillips passing hurt her most.

The White House budget of $1.4 billion is all spent. As far as I know, none of it is returned to the "public purse". But, some presidents have returned their salary.
