Let me throw out this "crazy" (but proved)...observation and thought.

"It's those who "think" instead of relying on actual facts...that area big part of a LOT of the problems we're seeing."

Some folks are extremely gullible, too lazy to do their own research with legitimate sites and simply prefer to take the lazy way out...by being sucked in by 'confirmation bias.'

Any wonder or question, why it's been so pathetically easy for our enemies around the world (think Russia/China/North Korea)...to so easily manipulate a lot of American citizens?

They KNOW the inherit prejudice of so many in this country, it's not even work...it's more like 'child play manipulation' for them.

It's also perfectly analogous to the current 'use/don't use' argument...regarding masks for Covid-19.

What does that have to do with recognizing the most dangerous jobs in America, the subject of the thread?

Yep.. Look at all the American citizens that have been manipulated into violence, looting and tearing down 100+ year old statues because they are all of a sudden offensive. Look at the businesses that have been manipulated because the name of their products are all of a sudden offensive.

Yep. There are a lot of gullible people out there.

These issues are FAR from being..."SUDDENLY offensive."

They've been going on...for a VERY long time.

There you go running off the rails again.. You brought up manipulation. And yes, people are being manipulated.

And yes, this "being offended" or "woke" is sudden. People are just waiting to be told what they should be mad about next. I've never heard anyone complain about any of the product names that are being tossed out now. You are right though, it is manipulation.

Get them riled up about police brutality. Check.. Get them riled up about perceived social injustice. Check.. Now tell them that rioting and looting and chaos is acceptable. Check. It's ALL manipulation.

Data is available. In 2019 there were 7 firefighter deaths in the country that involved deaths from flame, gas, explosion. There were over 50 additional deaths mostly from heart attacks. Details of each reported death are HERE

Police death data is also available for 2019. There were 89 LEO deaths. Of the 89, 48 were felonious thus happened during encounters with civilians. The other 41 were accidental mostly traffic accidents. Interestingly the felonious deaths were extremely associated with the South.

27 officers were feloniously killed in the South
9 in the Midwest
9 in the West
1 in the Northeast
2 in Puerto Rico

and so were the accidental deaths

22 of the accidental deaths occurred in the South
8 in the Midwest
8 in the West
3 in the Northeast

This is so far one of the least lethal years for LEO's. From 1919 to 1936 every year there were over 200 LEO deaths, and of course a much smaller population both of citizens and LEO's. The last year there were over 200 was 2007. There are nearly 700,000 LEO's in the US. There are over one million firefighters of which about 70% are volunteer and 30% career.
