I totally agree that recognition of all the good LEO's... is absolutely warranted.

They perform a needed and hazardous job...often with not enough recognition.

While we're on that subject though, let's not also forget to appreciate all of those others who have hazardous jobs...that make/made our lives better.

So this thread is for all of those retiree's here in The Villages, that worked in dangerous occupations...and made it safely to retirement here in TV.

Here are the 25 most dangerous jobs in America...IN ORDER of danger:


1- Logging workers- Those that provide the wood for our homes, businesses and so many other things.
2- Fishers and related fishing workers- I love my fish/crab/lobster, so my hats off to these folks too.
3- Aircraft pilots and flight engineers- Kinda self-explanatory.
4- Roofers- A group that we see every day here in TV and which I want no part of...especially in the middle of summer.
5- Refuse and recyclable material collectors- Can't imagine what we would do, without these people.
6- Driver/sales workers and truck drivers- Since most of our "stuff" comes by truck...
7- Farmers, ranchers and other agricultural managers- And for those of us who like to eat, well...
8- Structural iron and steel workers- No thanks. I like 'terra-firma.' "The more firma, the less terra."
9-First-line supervisors of construction trades and extraction workers- More people we see every day around here.
10-First-line supervisors of landscaping, lawn service and groundskeeping workers- Ditto to the above.
11-Electrical power-line installers and repairers- Ditto.
12-Grounds maintenance workers- Ditto.
13-Miscellaneous agricultural workers-Ditto.
14-Helpers, construction trades- Ditto.
15-First-line supervisors of mechanics, installers and repairers-Ditto.
16-Police and sheriff’s patrol officers
Construction laborers
Maintenance and repair workers, general
Mining machine operators
Operation engineers and other construction equipment operators
Bus and truck mechanics and diesel engine specialists
Electricians
Heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers
Athletes, coaches, umpires and related workers

The "point" of your post is pointless. First, it's not his list; it's a list compiled by the Dept of Labor, i.e. bureau of labor statistics, concerning the ranking of lethality in certain occupations. Second, It really has NO bearing what any particular member feels about the ranking - the ranking is statistically correct and easily verified.

There's only one category of job in the list where most of the deaths are caused by people shooting at you. The rest are accidents, crashes, falls etc.

It's a big difference if to wonder every day if someone is going to pull a gun on you are if you are in the sights of a rifle. I'll bet Police are moving up on this list as we speak.
