I don't think broadcasting 10 women to 1 man puts this place in a favorable light. I know it's not true but I wonder if older adults are saying to themselves "100,000 women and 10,000 men, that's not for me." That's what bothers me the most, not the sex, STD's or cheap booze Blue Shirt. [i stole Blue Shirt from someone :)]

I just want to have a great time down here with new friends and watch my real estate inflate so I can borrow against it and go traveling all over the world.

It might be possible that there are 10 "available" women for every 1 available guy.

Let's all remember that this is Inside Edition, not a news show. This program is not now, nor has it ever been about news. It's strictly about entertainment, and often utilizes sexual references to entertain. This is to news as the National Enquirer is journalism.

Bay Kid 09-25-2014 07:21 AM

Trash!

Well said.

When I first learned of TV, I mentioned it to my brother, he lives in Merritt Island, and told him that I would like to look at TV and was thinking about buying a house there for my retirement. This was about 2 - 3 years ago. He told me then that it had a very bad reputation for STDs among the retirees (he was snickering as he told me) and it put me off of wanting to live there. However, as I kept reading more about it, I became more intrigued and decided to come down and see for myself. Well, of course, I fell in love with the place. While I was on the lifestyle visit with my mother, my brother came up to stay with us for a couple of days, and what can I say, we ALL fell in love with it and the lifestyle and I am now a proud homeowner and my brother is very happy that I didn't listen to the gossip. He loves it also.

I hate it I am not down their having all this fun with the rest of you. I have visited the area many times and everyone I have met seems sincere and willing to tell you how much they enjoy TV. Just waiting for my home to sell.

Well pivo I do not understand. Here you are the second coming of Mr. Midnight and not a tug on your line. You would thin that at a rating of 8 women would be throwing their bras at you:D

This is interesting and news to me. I never watched that show.

"The first anchor of the program was David Frost, who was replaced after approximately three weeks with Bill O'Reilly." wikipedia

Wouldn't that make a great trivia question?
What was the name of the tabloid tv news show that was once anchored by David Frost and Bill O'Reilley? Inside Edition

This county by county spreadsheet from FL Dept of Health shows clearly the ignorance in that rumor. It shows numbers and percentages of STDs per county, and also the number/percentage co-infected with HIV.

The three counties of The Villages (Sumter, Lake and Marion) make us look like nuns compared to most others in the state.

I agree with you and just upgrades myself to a 9, My point was if the villages was that sexual where everywhere you go the golf benches, parking lots , golf carts, etc. I've been going there and see nothing, maybe I'll just wear my speedo.
I see the villages as a nice comfortable, easy going, and nice people you can't believe what you read and half of what you see, I think maybe I'll drop my rating down to a 4 any young takers+

quirky3 09-25-2014 11:33 AM

Maybe if you try wearing a Borat-style Unikini?!

The real story here is the out and out lies told to the president and vice-president of Sumter Singles. They made it very clear they would not participate if sex was the subject. They were told the point of the piece was to present the other side of the story--which was appealing since all people hear about lately is the sex stuff. The president had them in his house, took them to the softball fields to show him how important that is to people, spoke of the charitable efforts, volunteering, Learning College, and Charter Schools. None of that was mentioned. Again, they repeated and explicitly told them the would only participate if the other side was depicted. They are disgusted. And Inside Edition has taken down the link to that story despite having older stories still available. The thinking is they got inundated with comments refuting the story. You can still post on the page though. Of course, we all know Inside Edition is a tabloid, but with the assurances they gave, the expectation was that at least some of the good things would be depicted.

I don't suppose that Sumter Singles were able to get those promises documented. There is always a competing news organization more than willing to jump on a story like that. Although, that would ultimately generate more questionable coverage.

pivo: I can't imagine someone retiring moving to The Villages solely to act like wild college kids . To bring some reality to it all those men that bragged that women use to throw their bras at them would more than likely find today they women would look at them and ask honey do you think you want to borrow mine

We all had our 15 minutes and nature wisely made it somethings belong to the young

Is there a certain I need to be off the streets ?
I do not want the girl posse to violate me.

Among the many things I have learned the hard way in 72+ years of existence is never trust a reporter! My experience is replete with examples I would not care to share but for the life of me I can not recall one of them ever getting it right - or perhaps wanting to do so.

The bit on The Villages done by Inside Edition was the epitome of vacuousness.

manaboutown: My occupation brought me in contact with reporters. One told me if i didn't giv him the story he would write it his way anyway. Thank God America still has a few journalist around to keep the rest in line

Has anyone read her book? If so, what did you think of the book?

When you visit in February, make sure you and your chaperone are off the streets by 9:00 p.m. :) And enjoy your visit!

Don't worry Cisco. As a result of the recent gender-identity discussions, the posse has become co-ed.

This is incorrect information.

Ahhh. . . Mr. Blechman. What a perfect name for him, don't you think? He wrote that silly book and is doing his level best to hang on to his fifteen seconds of sub-fame.

As for Inside Edition, I found it silly as well, but with the redeeming factor of increasing the value of my real estate. Only because of that do I forgive their tawdry tactics. :icon_wink:

PS - My husband says the only blue pill he sees passed around like candy is naproxen.

Cedwards38 09-27-2014 07:26 AM

It's not "news." It's Inside Edition. Purely for entertainment. Same category as the supermarket tabloids. When you watch it, you only encourage it.
