Default Skype

Not sure if this should go under the computer section since this isn't a question. Just wanted to sing the praises of Skype. This is a VoIP phone that you use through your computer. For the first time today we talked to our son in Iraq and his wife in Washington state -- both at the same time. Wonderful! Just like they were in the room with us. We just used a microphone and the speakers on the computer so both my husband and I could participate. They both use head sets. What a fantastic thing for those of us who have family in either Iraq or Afghanistan.

What a wonderful post AL! I do know about Skype but your use of it brought tears to my eyes. Technolgy is a fantastic thing when I can bring families together like that. They had nothing like that of course when our generation had husbands and sons and daughters in Vietnam and I thank God that its available now for you and other familiies of our heroes in Iraq & Afganistan. Thank your son for his service.

Linda...thank you for this idea! My parents are in Syracuse as well...with sons (my brothers) in the Marines. One just arrived stateside from Iraq and is now in NC....BUT his 10 year old daughter is in SYR with Mom and Dad..

Skype would be perfect for all of them to visit! I will be calling them tomorrow to help them get it set up!

Thanks so much for this! Now they will be able to see ALL of their children and grandchildren "face to face".

Awww Linda, Your on the way home already? Sorry we did not get to Belly dance this winter as our teacher was working long hours this winter.

Thankyou for the touching post, that communication must have been priceless for your family.

So glad for you to be in touch...thank your son for us! Mom and Dad just left to go back there as well....they actually live in Radisson (B-ville)! They said today was beautiful (60 degrees). They miss it here...we miss them....but SYR is beautiful in most areas!

When we lived down state as young children....our vacation lake home was in Cazenovia...which is where I went to school years later!

Then my family went on to Rochester....then M & D to SYR!

We use Skype all the time. My hubby's brother just got home yesterday. He and his wife were missionaries in Pakistan. We have been able to see them and speak to them for the two years that they have been gone. It is a wonderful tool. We were able to see our grandkids while we were in Florida a couple of weeks ago. All you need is a camera, microphone and speakers. Our home computer didn't have the built in camera like our laptop, so we bought one for less than $10. It works great!

That's how I see my two granddaughters that are up north and they us. I can even read to them - saw Avery learn to crawl. Technology is great.
