Agree juvenile black racers look just like Pygmy rattle snakes the big eyes gives them away. Seen one on Chatham rec center front entry last fall they it to catch lizards.

Have your cats & dogs interacted with the snakes? My dog (a terrier) eats everything, including every bug she finds. I worry that she would try to eat a snake. A cat might think it’s a fun toy, too.
When you’re dog shakes something back and forth what do you think they are trying to kill?

Thats what I was just going to suggest.... put some mothballs in the grill bottom. Snakes do not hang around then.

I believe a heavy line of fertilizer works too, but a little hard to get it to stay in your grill. You can put it around bushes though...

one of these snakes was in the driveway right near my driver car door. it sat there looking @ me with those big eyes, & as much as i hate snakes, this lil' guy was cute, so i didn't freak out. i tried 'shooing' it away but it didnt budge, just coiled itself up & sat there staring @ me. after a bit of conversation, explaining to it why it had to leave, i turned my head & he was on his way. it was aprox a foot long, give or take.

Default Here’s our black snake!

And ... here’s our black snake, basking in the sun under our arbor.
