What is happening here in the USA is beurocracy and CYA and politics and not wanting to hurt anybody's feelings are at play. We as a country have long forgotten how to play hardball ON ANYTHING!!!!!

To put the 30-50% into context, this pandemic killed somewhere between 100-200 million people during the Middle Ages. In addition, total world population was then about 375 million. Today it's about 7 billion, roughly 20x larger.

So I guess if you were amongst the 30-50% that died from the Black Death aka Bubonic Plague, you were then NOT better off?

That's right. Or, they might think Americans can help control an Ebola suicide bombing wherever it occurs in Europe and other places. And what does it do? It diverts our manpower and other resources; it will keep us busy.

From now on, any suicide bombing that occurs anywhere in the world will be suspected of containing Ebola. Will people help other injured people while waiting for medics to arrive? And what happens when medics arrive on the scene to help the injured? Will they have to wear special protective suits? Will they be able to do a blood test on the spot? How much blood do they need to do a blood test? And how long would they have to wait for a lab to have the results? Imagine the panic of not knowing.

You may have a point; it has been observed in animal populations. Overpopulations of animals have been known to crash. Usually by outstripping their food supply but it could be by disease too. And it has happened with people in the past.

I hope it gets eradicated soon because it's a disgusting disease. But if this doesn't bring a major reduction in population, it may just be a matter of time before something else does.

The reason is that there are so many people living in close proximity and there are millions of people traveling back and forth across the globe every day. In primitive times there were just tribes or small groups of people living far apart from each other.

I believe that it took a jolt to the comfort level of the average american to realize that the government and medical community should be prepared. Remember the good old days before the polio vaccine. Early on Swine Flu was a frightening term. Even AIDS has somehow been dialed down from the level of fear we now see over Ebola. Avian Flu would bring fear at one time. Now the CDC doesn't post updates about it.

One is working for ratings and followings. The other is working to get re-elected to their life time job.

The objectives of neither one have anything to do with the well being, educating and honest reporting of events of significance or concern to we the people.
