He seemed nice enough. He even gave me the phone number for his cousin a Nigerian Prince who is need of some cash right now. Wire him $1000 and you will be back $10,000 at the end of the month.

CAN YOU SPELL SCAM? I have not heard anything about direct deposit for stimulus checks OR that the post office will hold until you verify information. Be very careful, if it sounds fishy it probably isn't right.

Pretty sure under55 was making a joke.

Ah, of course! I'll blame low vision and not being able to make out the smilies.

skip0358 04-09-2020 05:55 PM

There are quite a few scams out there. Got a call today on my cell phone asking me to verify my account numbers because they were having trouble depositing my stimulus check. Friend got one yesterday so be careful.

biker1 04-09-2020 06:04 PM

It is completely on the up-and-up. No need to worry ;-)

Update

Letter arrived in the mail today, from IRS dated February 17. His 2018 taxes were audited, and found a mistake.

The check was a refund from IRS for their findings. As he said if letter would have come 6 weeks ago, when it was dated, there would not been a guessing game.

So check deposit was legit, however not stimulus.

He said since it’s found money, it’s still going to his employees who are still waiting on unemployment.

His hope is anyone who does not need their stimulus, if you could go to your favorite restaurant and donate to the staff. They have served you well, and even though they would expect nothing, they would be grateful

NoMoSno 04-09-2020 06:39 PM

Here’s when your stimulus check should arrive

The payment about to be received from Gov't is NOT taxible, therefore no withholding will be deducted! PERIOD!

davefin 04-11-2020 02:15 PM

Never heard of Federal Tax Withholding on a tax refund check!

He was guessing that taxes were taken out since he had no idea why a deposit was in his checking account, and it didn’t match what stim check amount was. See update post #47 for explanation

GE, do you think you'll be able to spread it around on your own or would you like for me to dig up the name of a new company that was proposed to spread it around for you? I'd bet the Love Shack that you can handle it on your own just like many off us will. I can't wait to get down to business helping others and I'm certain you feel the same way! :clap2:

Got it

Our deposit arrived today.

Chi-Town 04-14-2020 10:08 PM

Stimulus checks are going to be delayed several days due to adding Trump's signature.

Two weeks to those with no direct deposit so a paper check

Not his idea. Treasury Department insisted due to size of plan.

Not right to skew to the negative when it isn’t

Wiserbud47 04-15-2020 03:55 AM

We received our "tax relief" payment in our checking account on April 14.

Still cannot understand why there was withholding on a refund check. Taxes were already paid!

1. There wasn't any withholding
2. It's not a refund
3. It's a tax credit paid in advance

Schneil 04-15-2020 01:19 PM

deposited last night

This makes no sense. The Treasury Dept is under the gun, why would they make more work themselves?

I wasn't referring to the stimulus payment. I was responding to this post that was clarified later as NOT being a stimulus payment. It had 27% FIT withheld. Can not understand why??? Please go back and read the original intent of this post.

There IS a delay due to that. It's just a couple extra days, because the final decision on whether or not his name would appear, didn't come until recently and they had to print the checks.

The checks still weren't going to be sent out for another week or two, but now it's another week or two - plus a couple of days.

Meanwhile, the "My Payment" tracker on the irs.gov website says it can't determine whether or not I'm eligible to receive a stimulus check. I don't know why, we fell under the max in 2018 by around $40,000, and in 2019 we fell under it by just around $90,000. So we absolutely qualify.

John_W 04-15-2020 02:48 PM

If you didn't have a checking account on file with the IRS, only filed but never received a refund, then they start mailing checks May 4th at the rate of 5 million per week. Trumps name will appear in the memo stub, that has not delayed the printing at all. However, it may take up to 20 weeks to mail all the checks at this rate.

It's not tied to whether or not you got a refund. It's whether or not your bank account info was on file. Our bank account had been on file because we paid the taxes we owed electronically. No refund - payment. But the account info was in the system.

If you are currently collecting SS by direct deposit the stimulus check will be deposited the same way.

OrangeBlossomBaby 04-15-2020 10:51 PM

Now I find out we paid by check. But we only owed this past year, and the year before. Every other year before 2018, we got a refund, and the refund was always deposited electronically into our bank account.

But apparently that's not good enough for this stimulus check thing, they'll only go back to 2018. I checked the tool and there's no option to provide deposit information, if you paid tax by check in the past two years. ONLY if you got refunds by check in the past 2 years, or didn't file at all in the past 2 years.

So those of us who actually paid by check - will likely be among the last to see any of this stimulus check. So much for the new screen door. It was a nice thought, anyway. Maybe we'll get one in a few months.

I am original OP if you read our youngest was guessing as to What the Deposit was.....if it was stim check was there taxes or was it the reduction because he makes over $75000. If you read posts the letter from treasury dept, that arrived 6 weeks late, stated it was an error on HIS 2018 taxes, would receive deposit first of April. Would not have been a guessing game if letter would have arrived in February when it was generated.

So recap not stim, no 27% taxes removed, ERROR on 2018 TAX RETURN, deposited in account.

matandch 04-16-2020 06:27 AM

You are correct, sir. It’s non taxable.
