Beyonce's ad did not dance around the third rail of race like this one does. And deliberately from the look of it. Very savvy advertising though. They are selling pants.

So you haven't seen the Beyonce commercials.

And it isn't Sweeney who is being criticized, it is the advertisement itself.

It is a touchy subject given world history. Seems innocent on her part but kind of stupid on the part of the company putting out the ad. Like throwing a big rock in a pond that is already rippling. If your goal is a peaceful scene on that pond. If it is to get a lot of air time then it has seemed to work. I do not know if such a tactic will sell more jeans or not. It might turn people away.

Since when is it a crime to have good genes and look good in your jeans?? 99% of the people in this country didn't even think about Hitler when they saw this ad! Why does everyone have to walk on eggshells to keep the 1% from getting hysterical? So ridiculous.

juddfl 08-06-2025 08:57 AM

Well, woke strikes again. Their comment about her being racist as only caused the jeans to sell out. They can not keep them in stock because of all the news about her.

She is probably doing very well professionally due to this .

These make about as much sense to me as the banana taped to the wall being art?

And they would be damn cold in certain times of the year.

Ripped jeans are great for Florida - I all them "air-conditioned" jeans.

She was asked to do this because she was doing very well professionally.

I think she was in a show that I watched but I can't recall anything about her.

This most likely will draw more attention to her and her acting career. Here's hoping the political aspect of that attention doesn't wind up hurting her.

How was this political because some people don’t like a company advertising that a girl with blonde hair blue eyes has good genes…… how is that political? It’s only political if you make it political, the commercial itself is not a political statement by any means.

Blow my mind how people overthink this commercial

I rarely wear pants.

Mostly shorts.

Never heard of Sidney before.

Her ad ….she is singing call me a pretty little thing, then takes her pants off in a public.
So that is better how

Ya ever notice the first ones to be offended are the first ones to riot, vandalize, and wreak violence upon others? How does one have a thin skin about other people but wear armor when it comes to themselves? The one-way mirror of blindness here. Some have called it hypocrisy.

bagboy 08-06-2025 09:58 AM

The first time I knew of Sydney Sweeney, I was reading news from Key West. She purchased an oceanfront home a year or two ago for 16 million dollars. I think she was doing quite well before this ad.

She has had a long career already in Hollywood. Sydney Sweeney - Wikipedia. She has been working since 2009.

Not sure what ad you are talking about.

At 16 seconds into the commercial she takes her jeans off in a laundromat. With the shorts she is wearing underneath there is nothing offensive about it.

Cliff Fr 08-06-2025 10:30 AM

Had never heard of Sydney until this controversy. Nice ad and she's easy on the eyes

That does not seem to be true. It would probably be a talking head on some 24 hour news station that started this Sweeny tempest in a teacup. And then others who had motives to continue it . Ratings, stock, or some other personal stake . Or as distraction.

I do find "genes" to be a very loaded word as far as historical, psychological, and sociological contexts are concerned.

Runway48 08-06-2025 10:39 AM

There seems to have been an effort over the last several years to redefine beauty and attractiveness. Regardless of race, some people can be placed in a burlap sack and look good. Others look like potatoes. It doesn't matter how much gaslighting the vocal minority do.

I resemble the potato. I did have holes in the knees of some of my jeans but those are from wear and tear like a dog scratching at me for more of my chicken.

That's what makes the "woke outrage" comment so funny, imo. The ones that slam "woke" so much are often the "holier then thou" types. They have no clue. But they've got opinions, and it's always "my way or the highway".

Maybe the ones who slam Woke are tired of being told that everything they say and do is offensive to some snowflake, an act of microaggression, or outright racism. When there is ZERO accuracy to that.

Nothing about golf carts either. Or global warming, or cooling, or 2nd amendment rights. Lots of stuff isn't in the Bible. Maybe there is areason for that. Wonder what it is?

Except after the ad came out there were dozens of TikTok, X, and Instagram posts (yes mostly from the aforementioned single cat ladies, but also some beta-male men) excoriating the ad as racist, Nazi, etc. So yeah, they were really outraged. They need to get a life.

She's so popular (and good looking), she is uncancelable. Plus it seems like the whole cancel culture thing of the past 5 years is losing steam.

Probably was White Lotus though I need to go back to see her in character.

I was with you right up to the last sentence. Cancel culture is still here and gaining steam, it just looks different now and appeals to a different crowd. Pendulums.

Really? Can you give me a couple of examples of someone canceled the other way around?

Pendulums for sure, but I have seen nothing similar to what you describe.

Can't think of a way to answer that won't be uncomfortably close to the forum rules plus, off topic. Look for a PM later tonight or early tomorrow morning.

You have seen nothing? I'll bet you have, but just don't recognize it when it's something you support. For examples I'm afraid it would become almost instantly political. Start with a fill in the blank question such as "Gulf Of ......", and go from there. Not personal. Not political. Just Geographical.

Alex, in the category of geographical location names I will answer the question. What is THE GULF OF AMERICA?

What does renaming the gulf have to do with Cancel Culture? Nothing.

What I support is personal responsibility rather than blaming others, patriotism instead of hatred of America, and allowing people to apologize for their (real, not fake outrage) mistakes without having their lives and careers ruined. If you disagree with any of that, I feel sorry for you.

Velvet 08-06-2025 09:14 PM

I looked at the ad after this post, but what she says is true, parents do pass down their genes to their children. And both her eyes and jeans are blue. Sort of like saying the moon is in the sky. And she is happy. No teen angst etc Hey, you want to get offended by it… go ahead.

Arbitrary renaming international locations or places because the place name was given by a culture you are mad at is most definitely a cancel culture move on the highest order of overinflated ego, designed to show distain for another country and culture, imo.
I support personal responsibility also. I also am also a patriot who proudly served this country for 6 years, part of that time in Vietnam. I, like you, love my country. And I, like you, believe in allowing apologies for mistakes. I also believe in acknowledging our history, good and bad, and going forward to make our country a place where all can feel respected, appreciated, safe, secure, equal and free.
