Here’s something to consider. If you get your bank & investment accounts via email, will your spouse or your other beneficiaries know where your funds are, how much is there, who is entitled to the funds & the password to access the account after you die or are incapacitated?

If they don’t have access to your password- or biometric-protected EMAIL, they may not ever receive anything to trigger them to seek possession of it. Mailed paper statements serve as notifications to your heirs.

My son has the master password needed to access all accounts in the event of disaster. They can access my email the same way to monitor for bills. Everyone should have someone they trust with this info if you are over 60.

OK great info so far, so let me ask the next question. For those of you that use paperless payments, are all of these like ACH, where it gets paid with NO INTERVENTION by you, or are these a hold for approval before the bank pays. I have been burned by the first and only want the second.

They email. I go online download the bill. I review the bill. I go online to my bank and initiate a bill payment on my bank’s bill payment service. The payment is sent electronically for most vendors, and receive within two days. No postage.

I want to thank all of the actual electronic bill payment users for your comments and background information, this has been VERY useful. Next step will be to talk to the bank and confirm exactly how their bill payment system works.

When I was in Texas a few years ago I spent about $5000 on furniture and used that card. I got five years 0% interest so I’m OK with paying 2 dollars a month.
On something like that, I don’t want auto deduct. I wanna see a paper bill showing the four different balances.

Do you know you can see your balances on the statement online, it’s exactly like the printed statement.

Auto deduct has nothing to do with which option you’ve chosen to view your statement.

Bill pay much different than auto pay, don’t confuse the 2.

Chose what works for you, make sure you understand the options and how they work.

Paperless bill with bill pay worth a look.

We use our two credit cards for 98% of all purchases. Great cash rewards from both Discover and Bank of America Visa. I like using their money for most of the month. So far we still get a paper trail from them and our two banks. If they start charging, I won’t cut off my nose to spite my face. Fore.
