Default Terrible quake and tsunami in Japan and tsunami heading toward States.

Sad and frightening news about earthquake in Japan and now reporting Nuclear power plant in danger there.

From the pictures shown on TV it looks as if the death toll will be very high.

Default Many many prayers

We have two friends with family in Japan and good friends in Hawaii, so will be hoping for some good news for everyone there....Good news is Japan is way ahead of the rest of the world in constructing earthquake safe building but not sure if the an 8.9 quake might tip the scale...Hoping for the best for all concerned....

In the past 10 years I have been to that part of Japan on 4 different trips.
Wonderful country and wonderful people there. I hope they are all safe.

Just watching on tv. Experienced many earthquakes in CA, but NOTHING close to an 8.9 shake. My prayers for all impacted are sent along.

Now waiting to hear from a friend who lives in Hawaii. Think where we lived in Ca is far enough inland that friends I know will be safe. Right now there is a tsunami watch for the coastal areas of the US. They're sneaky things, tsunamis...and better to evacuate than not.

So sad, terrible devastation in Japan.

6ft sunami hit Maui no damage recorded initially.

Cool

After living 4 years in Japan, I have lots of friends there. Have sent emails to some of them, but no replies. However, it's a little after midnight there right now, so maybe in a few hours....

Luckily [if there's anything lucky about an 8.9 earthquake], it was far enough north of the Tokyo area, as to not have a major impact to the city. Everyone, in Tokyo, knows they are due for the big one. This will provide them another wake-up call...

An 8.9 in the Tokyo area would have had massive devastation.

I was living in Kobe, Japan, just after the 7.6 earthquake in 1995. 20 second quake, >5,000 dead, thousands and thousands displaced [ie. homeless] and unbelievable destruction... From what I understand, this quake lasted more than a minute and 10 times more powerful than the Kobe quake.

Lets all hope for the best.....

Just heard from our Jhooman, she's in CA and is safe. Have heard from my other friends in the LA area and they are all out of harm's way, too. Now just waiting to hear from friend in Hawaii.

No problems from the Japan quake in Hawaii. The emergency alert sirens started going off every hour last night to warn everyone along the coastal areas to evacuate. I arrived at work at 4AM at Pearl Harbor this morning and everything is normal.

Our son is near Tokyo in the military. We haven't heard from him yet but we think he's OK. He'll probably be assisting in the rescue/recovery operation. We just wish we would hear from him though.

If your Son is stationed at the base in Sagamihara, I'm sure he's OK. I have had contact with my Japanese friends and some are in Sagamihara...they are fine.

Hope you hear from your Son soon!

Thanks, He's stationed in Camp Zama which is 25 miles north of Tokyo. We heard from him today. His base was shaken up but everyone is OK. They may send them in to provide relief.

What a crazy world lately!
