Needs improvement in healthy procedures

The subway making line did not keep customers 6 feet apart. The second employee worked faster than the first employee causing the second customer to loom over first customer in making selections. Very unnerving. The salad bar and olive bar had communal serving spoons. No way would I touch that.

Store looked very appealing. Can’t wait until this viral spread is over.

I always order my sandwiches online and never wait for them to be made. Just order, set the pickup time and forget the crowd.

In national business surveys Publix is either a leader or very high as bring family friendly, pay of employees, hiring and moving there own into management among other things. I use Publix not only because of the quantity but I also don’t mind paying a little more for a business that treats there employees well, just remember when people are sad about some store going out of business in there area , well did they use that store or did they go to the big box store to save a little

Open olive bar with the glass "sneeze protector" over it that the little lady almost got her head under but her hair def made it and wide opened fried chicken items (strips, nuggets etc) that you pick up with tongs. You don't see much of that type of thing these days with sanitizing being the big thing. They did have a fresh "salad bar" but employees with gloves & masks made the salads as you instructed them. So if they could have open olive bar and loose opened fried chicken stuff why couldn't they have an opened salad bar? Fresh produce is different because you can wash them first.

They did have a very large selection of PACKAGED prepared meals compared to the Colony store which has comparatively very little.

When I use the olive bar at the Publix on Kristine way, I take a produce bag, put my hand through it and pick up the serving spoon that way. Then when I am done, I reverse taking the bag off and throw in the garbage that is near the deli. This avoids having to touch the serving spoon at all.

No way. I like Publix but if you're from anywhere in the South you already know that Winn Dixie stocks more Southern type foods than Publix. Their meats are much better also.

Oh my gosh, another Costco mention! There is NO way a Costco will ever be built in TV. We are two person households, do not purchase enough in one buying session. Go to a Costco in Orlando and just watch and notice the traffic and the number of people buying twice the average of a couple in TV. No, you cannot compare it to Sam's. If a Costco ever opened Sam's would go out of business.

I don't think the Publix near the Everglades Rec Center is open yet. But, just to clarify, the Everglades Rec Center is not in the Village of Fenney. It is in the Village of Marsh Bend. Fenney is not an area, it is a residential village. Some people think that the entire area south of Rt 44 is called Fenney. But, there are about eight or so residential villages south of Rt 44 and Fenney is only one of them.

Where is Everglades Rec Center? Never heard of it.

New Publix

I shopped at the new Publix this morning in Trailwinds on 466A. What a nice store, well stocked, friendly employees and different items available at Colony. Lots of freshly prepared take out food, huge assortment of cheese and an olvie bar. The meat section has a nice assortment of prepared food to take home and heat and shopping bags with all the ingredients to make a very nice meal. Definitely my new supermarket and to make it even better no golf carts.

You do know the Villagers aren't the only area residents, right? You don't think all the "support troops" who live around here also wouldn't love to have a COSTCO? And if nobody here would ever buy enough to warrant a COSTCO, why is Sam's here? Same concept.

Sam's is a smaller footprint.

Shopped at this new Publix this AM 08/30/20, layout completely different then every Publix nearby.

Salad bar, ready made packaged foods galore, plenty of space in the vegetable/fruit dept.

One way aisles non existent, wine selection very disappointing, that said I did not visit the adjoining Publix Liquor Store.

Overall I rate the store compared to Colony....Slightly better only because of parking is much better, contents disappointing.

Overall I rate the store compared to Traverse.. Traverse is better for contents, parking is about the same.

Conclusion; I will likely shop at Trailwinds only because it is more convenient for me, that said I am not impressed.

Sams is one of their bigger ones, much bigger than the one we went to in Roanoke.

If Costco came would be an interesting battle.

zonerboy 08-30-2020 08:20 PM

I think the Trailwinds location gives Publix some leverage. If rent from Trailwinds is less than locations on Village developer land, they could always close the Colony location and stay with the new location.

It's not the spoon and it's not just even Covid that concerned me .... it's just so gross when the 5' little lady had her hair dragging over the bar. I NEVER get food from any of those "buffet" style services. I have always avoided them. The last actual buffet I went to was probably 20+ years ago when I went to a Wendy's salad bar (talk about gross). YUCH! At least when you buy produce you can take it home and wash it.

charlieo1126@gmail.com 09-01-2020 07:30 AM

It’s in Fenney

Strange how publix is even keeping this bar open now. Like a buffet at restaurants but in these times should have an employee dishing out food choices.

We shop at Winn Dixie as much as we can but expect to pay 10-15% more when we go to Publix. I agree with the post that said Winn Dixie helps to keep Publix prices on check. I've lived in CA, NY, WI and TX and groceries in The Villages are expensive. More so than even Pavilions in CA.

I don’t mind paying a little more at Publix but usually buy sale items. Publix seems to treat their employees better along with pay benefits very little turnover and seem to take more pride in providing service. Very rarely understaffed.

I must agree with you on that just returned from trip through Midwest, New England and Atlantic Coast yes there is a big difference in prices on just about everything. Although there are exceptions.

Costco and "THE DEVELOPER" had a feud some time ago and there will be no COSTCO on Village Property. We almost didn't get the neighborhood WalMart off 466A because THE DEVELOPER works off a % of sales rental model, and WMT does not do % of sales. Cooler head prevailed.

I would imagine Costco would want low cost rent but would think there is a lot of vacant land that would be ideal for them if they wanted to come here.

Figured that some day when we can travel back to where we came from a lot of food would be in the car on the way home.

That would include stuff we have not found here.

Whose heads prevailed, the developer's or WalMart's?
