You need to find out if those were the original prices or the resale prices.

I heard a number like $8,000 for the AFC game in Baltimore. Up until a few years ago I had season tickets at that stadium. I was never charged anything remotely close to even $1,000 for a game. Sure, there were more expensive tickets and packages but not 40 times what I was paying. EXCEPT, there was the resale market where I could easily sell my tickets for at least 4x the price I originally paid.

I have no idea what the NFL charges for Superbowl tickets but I suspect there are very few, if any, in the $10,000 price range. On the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they were being offered for that much on the resale market.

There are plenty of things to criticize the NFL for but they have little control over ticket scalping.

He caught 11 passes on Sunday, it was a tremendous effort and most of those catches came when they needed them most. Any football fan can certainly see that he's not an individualistic player. No way. The guy is flat out great.

First, her presence, if anything, improved his performance. He was 11 for 11 on receptions.

Second, I'm certain I speak for many others when I state I'm glad you are not the coach and Andy is.

And the data has been crunched. During the over 3 hours of football coverage of the KC/Balt game, they showed people eating crab cakes for a total of 27 seconds. And they showed Swift for a total of 44 seconds.

Some people maybe don't like her stance on issues. Certainly Fox News has been attacking her because she is pushing young people to register and vote. What a terrible thing to encourage participatory democracy.

Sometimes having that "certain person" in your corner is a big help and spurs you on to do your best. I'm sure if he or his coach felt his girlfriend was a distraction and was causing poor play, she would be asked not to attend. Clearly they haven't needed to have that conversation. And let's face it, the publicity is a positive factor for the NFL. I read that she has generated something like $330 million for the Chiefs, and her involvement has led to increased viewership of NFL games. What's not to like.

I get annoyed at being reminded that *this* game is important because there is a famous person in the stands - see, there she is. And just in case you forgot, there she is again and again and .....

It's wonderful that she is there to support the guy she is dating. It's wonderful that Eminem is at the Lions game to support the team he likes. It's also wonderful that people in MD eat crabs. But none of that has anything to do with the game.

Swing the camera to show the random, excited fan or the fan doing something particularly noteworthy? Hey, that's fun. Swing the camera to the same fan time after time? Now it's becoming annoying.

The story should be the players on the field not the guests in the owner's box (or the menu at the restaurant down the street).

I wish people would blame the media then, not Taylor Swift. The media does it with all sporting events. I remember Tiger playing and even when he wasn't remotely in contention the media would be focusing on him rather than some unknown player who might be leading.

This seems mostly about selling stuff through advertising. Taylor Swift beings in more eyeballs which translates into more money coming in from items bought due to savvy marketing.

Some of those Super Bowl commercials are works of art.

I was thinking along the same lines. Here I was watching the game, actually following each step, when the camera panned in on “a fan”. Then again and again. I finally looked up who was this “fan” and it was Swift. Next time they panned on her I actually took a look and instead of thinking now which down are we on, I was thinking, is that a red cashmere toque she’s wearing? I wonder where she got it? So yes, too much was distracting from the game. On the other hand, I am thinking of getting a similar toque.

eweissenbach 01-31-2024 10:06 AM

Every NFL game is a few minutes of slam/bam action and many more minutes of huddles, injury issues, timeouts, etc. Generally speaking those minutes are filled with the game announcers stories, anecdotes and analysis. A few seconds of Taylor Swift or Alexander Swift is a pleasant diversion. It is incredible to me that some manly men see that as a threat.

Rapscallion St Croix 01-31-2024 10:50 AM

I would rather see J Fred Muggs cameos throughout the game than any lip synched halftime show.

No surprise there. Those people are nuts. I supposed they think her popularity is some nefarious plot designed to re-elect a certain President. And encouraging people to vote!!! OMG, what is she thinking!

Exactly.

And athletes, rock stars and Hollywood types should stay out of politics and stick to what made them famous. Just because you are a celebrity, doesn't mean your opinion means squat.

It's all coming from one side because that side constantly feels attacked by the MSM and most celebrities. Maybe if there was an even-handed balance of coverage....nah, never gonna happen.

Boomer 01-31-2024 03:54 PM

Why so afraid of Taylor Swift. (rhetorical question)

. . . even to the point of pushing conspiracy theories.

Why can’t those believers of conspiracy theories see they are being used when they allow themselves to be constantly stoked with anger, hatred, fear, paranoia and all that entails?

Those who start the stoking have nothing but contempt for the American people — and those for whom they have the most contempt are the susceptible fools who believe them.

Well, at least there is acknowledgement that it's all coming from one place....that, in and of itself, is a positive.

Hopefully, it will all calm down. The country really does have bigger issues than the culture wars.

The thing that bothers me the most is not the politics. There are a lot of people who are allowing grievance and anger to rob them of their joy in life. Life is too short for this. It's a football game. Maybe Taylor Swift will be on screen for 1 minute out of almost 4 hours of coverage. How can anyone allow that to rob of their enjoyment of this game? She is the biggest star in this country, and one of the biggest stars in the world. There are a few soccer stars who may be more popular world-wide. I am quite sure if they show up to any non-soccer game in their home country, the TV coverage will show them for a minute or more as well.

The conspiracy theories being floated are preposterous and ridiculous. The game is not rigged. KC has been in the Super Bowl 3 of the past 4 years and won two of them, long before Travis Kelce started dating Taylor Swift. They are a great football team, they don't need the NFL to influence the outcome.

Although I am not a fan of her music, I wish she was playing at halftime instead of the noise pollution (Rap) that is on the agenda. At least she actually plays music and has eye appeal. She was offered millions to appear at halftime but declined as she doesn’t want to distract from her boyfriend’s attempt to win a third Super Bowl. Good for them.

I don't think that half time entertainers are actually paid. The NFL does pay the cost associated with producing the show. Maybe there are some money transfers from other sources.
