Unique retirement Gift for an educator
My betterhalf is retiring from education in 4 days and this past monday the school had a retirement luncheon for her. The staff who organized this function arranged for a mother at the school to say some words and when she got up everyone thought it was the same ole, same ole....until everyone realized that this was a special person. This mom was in my wifes first kindergarten class 34 years ago and she proceeded to give a very vivid first hand experience of what it was to be in her class, and moreso what it meant today to have her children now with her kindergarten teacher. She also had pictures to prove it!! .....I mean there was not a dry eye among the 78 atendees.
It was a memory few will forget...especially if your career was an educator!! |

Re: Unique retirement Gift for an educator
What a lovely story--congratulations--and have a great retirement!!! Reminds me of friends of ours, a couple who taught in the same district for nearly 40 years (she had taken a couple of years off for maternity leave; he taught literally in the same classroom for all those years). Her high school principal had been a student of hers many years before; it made it easy for her to go into his office and say 'Now Billy, you know what I need for my classroom this year!' What finally assured their retirement was one of them getting as a student the grandchild of one of the first students (as well as a good buyout)! And if the world isn't small enough, we went to a regional club meeting in TV and met people who had worked with them in that school district!
