Default Village Resident and Would be author

My husand and I are new residents in Buttonwood. I've written a children's story book. I know there are talented authors in TVillages and would appreciate advice on the "how to's" of getting a childrens' book published.. Appreciate any advice. Sandra

I Googled "book publishing" and found a fund of info that may be of some help to you. It may be worth a look there.

Good luck! ( My stepson is an aspiring screen writer. Not having much luck but he is tenacious ).

You might contact the many established writers' clubs within TV who have a number of published authors, and would certainly be of some help. I imagine that you could find contacts listed in the Daily Sun Recreation supplement; think it's in the Thursdays' issue, not sure.

Maybe someone here on TOTV could pitch in on some contacts. Hope this helps. ....barb

Default Try this web site

I have several friends who are self published authors. They have very successfully used www.lulu.com. One of my friends even sells her books on Amazon. This website helped her with obtaining an ISBN number and marketing her book.

I hope you have great success with your book!

Yes, having an ISBN # is a must. Selling on Amazon is also a must. One thing I failed to do with with my book when in print was to have it in electronic format (Kindle, Nook). As most serious writers and readers are aware-- the book industry is in critical condition and an important market is to sell books electronically.

There is course starting on Feb. 21 at the Lifelong Learning College (www.VillagesLifelongCollege.com) #2236.401 - Advanced Writing for Children, taught by Dr. Brenda Weaver. The specific goal of the course is to get your manuscript ready to mail to a publisher. It costs $69.00 for Village residents, meets for 5 Monday nights at the Miona Center. Hope to see you there.

"THE" is missing from your link - here's the proper one: http://www.thevillageslifelongcollege.com/

I worked in the department that handled the small publishers at Amazon for 4 months. You must have an ISBN to market your book. An ISBN is tied to the idividual publication and can not be reused. You may also receive a related EAN don't get confused it is just a longer version of the same number.

You will be given an online account that you can manage your sales through and upload any relevent information it's called Vendor Central and has step by step information. The sales of your book will depend on the quality of the site listing uploading an image of the cover and the quality of the cover art is very important. Also the description should be one that targets the prospective audiance. Use key words that will pull when the shopper does a search. IE childrens book, amimal stories, ages 4-6 are common types of comments in childrens listings.

Amazon has a publish on demand option so you can give your book a try without finding or printing a bunch of copies. There are links on the bottom of the Amazon site under contact us.

Hope this helps,
