Warning about buying new tires
THIS COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE......
pass it on to all your friends and family.....this is nothing short of criminal. (This video was made in 2008. I searched to see if anything has been done about this since then - I could not find anything.) There is a 30 sec. commercial at first --- and then the video. The video is well worth watching. Please watch until the end, because some of the most important stuff you need to hear and see are past the middle of the segment. It could save your life or that of someone you love. Pass it on after you've seen it. I think you'll want to. Click on this link : http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4826897

I'm going to crawl under my new car right now and find out how old the tires are.

One of the tires on my daughters car fell apart at high speed. Fortunately very little damage. The grage said all the tires were too old so she relplaced them all. Don't know the date of the tires but I will start checking my current and future tires.

I ordered a set of tires online about a year ago. When they arrived, I checked the date codes and they were all well over a year old already! I contacted the vendor to bring it to their attention and they willing offered to credit me back about 25% of the price paid for the tires. Sounded fair to me.....plus I really needed the tires (winter tires for a car I drove only in the winter time). They said they don't warehouse tires for very long - blamed the 'old' dates on the manufacturer.
As an aside: Unfortunately, the age of the tires in my case turned out to be a moot point. Right as wintertime was about over, someone went left of center while I was rolling along, minding my own business........and creamed my car. Bummer. Toast. Totaled. Fortunately, they had enough insurance to cover the value of my car (and the new tires, I might add!) and my banged up shins. I was lucky, to say the least! Bill |

THANKS for sharing Islandgal! Next time I'm shopping for tires, it's gonna be like shopping for a loaf of bread (checking the dates).

Since we're all now aware of where to find the manufacture date of tires, has anyone had experience with buying a new car and refusing to accept old tires? We have a 2007 Murano which came with tires manufactured in 2004. If you refused to accept the vehicle with two year old tires, would the dealer be able to find more recent tires, or would they say, "take it or leave it." We have no immediate plans to buy another car but I'd be willing to take a hard line on this. We'd never have accepted a new car with three year old tires.
