Weight change since you moved to The Villages...
A good sign of an "active" community is the weight of its' residents.* They say once we develop our habits in adulthood, very little changes in retirement.* But... (with one "t")...
since moving to The Villages, has your weight increased, decreased, or stayed the same? I understand two major competing influences, besides all the activities, are illness and ALL THE RESTAURANTS. 040

Re: Weight change since you moved to The Villages...
Most people I know have gained weight. There are many superb cooks in my village and we are always having a dinner or party of some sort.

I absolutely love this poster of you Samhass. You look great! :2cool:
Sorry to hear about weight gain, I was hoping all the activity would help remove some of this padding that I have put on over the years, (to protect "my youthful figure" from scratches and dents). Oh well. Luckily my husband's sight is going the way of my figure. |

Yeh, I don't want to hear the weight gain thing either. I, too, was hoping more activity would make it weight loss.

Re: Weight change since you moved to The Villages...
Oh Susan, it never occurred to me that the extra 50 postmenopausal fat pounds that I have obtained were to protect me from scratches and dents. I thought the weight was to puff out the wrinkles!! Was it CoCo Chanel or one of the Gabor sisters that said " At a certain age you have to choose between your face and your ass." Hmm...guess that's why I have so few wrinkles!!
Thanks, Johnny for the poster, and Susan for the compliment!

About everyone I know has gained. Many activites BUT too much eating out. I gained about 35 pounds the first few months here but have gotten rid of them.

Re: Weight change since you moved to The Villages...
I dropped about 50 lbs and am really happy about that. Less beer and more activity. Whole grain cereal in the morning and plenty of golf.

I love your quote from whichever of those glamour girls said it. Sometimes people say to me, "You sure don't have many wrinkles." But nobody has told me, at least not for a long time, that I look skinny. My number of TOTV posts passed my poundage awhile back, but if it does not warm up here soon so I stop hibernating and sitting at this computer, which I stupidly wanted in the kitchen, I might catch up. I was so hoping that by moving to TV, I would become thin and coordinated like those women on the The Villages ads they run on television. A restaurant that served all health-friendly food in normal portions would probably never make it anywhere I guess. But I have always wanted someone to open a place where customers could go in and carry out home-cooked entrees that were made with a reasonable nod to health concerns, in portions enough for a couple of meals and a little leftover. That way customers could take the main course home, throw together a salad, and be all set. It would not be necessary to have a lot of employees or square footage. And it would not be necessary to provide anything but a takeout main course. Of course, comfort food would have to be offered, but without being highly processed or really full of fat, sodium, and all that stuff that gets us. Does anybody know of such a place? I have a couple of relatives who are great cooks and do a little catering. I used to try to talk them into opening a business like this, but I never could convince them. It seems like this kind of thing might do well in a place like TV. -Is there anything like this there? Oh, btw, I sure don't want to open a such a business. I just want to be a customer.

Re: Weight change since you moved to The Villages...
I moved here in July and being here six months without my husband I lost quite a few pounds. Now that he is here the pounds all came back and more! He is a bad influence. Alone I could live on tofu and salads, but with him it is pizza and ice cream!

Re: Weight change since you moved to The Villages...
I'm with you MSNPA.
Alone, (as now), I don't waste time cooking and only eat when I'm really hungry. Easier to lose weight then. But when DH is around, I make lots of meals, snacks, etc. I'd rather have the extra pounds and have him around for sure. I just wish he liked the 'skinny' foods more than the comfort foods. As far as eating out here, the meals are big enough to eat half and take the other half home for lunch the next day. And I TRY to do that most of the time. It's the 2 for 1 DRINKS that's killing me!!!

Re: Weight change since you moved to The Villages...
Go to Freshmarket .com.
They are somewhat like Whole Foods and Trader Joes. Healthy foods. Lots of organics etc. Prepared healthy foods. There is one in Gainesville and Orlando. When I spoke to them in January; they said they were very excited about coming here. |
