Actually, my younger brother moved first to CA from the wine country of Sonoma County, CA. We followed a few years later. To Palm Harbor, FL though.
Sure longed for a warmer climate when I lived in Minneapolis and was extremely jealous when someone from there got to go to Orlando or wherever.

Re: what did you think when you were young and heard.............
Never say never! I learned that when I moved to Florida after claiming I never would.
Over the past 10 years several friends moved to Florida and after each visit I would again proclaim never me. Some moved to Delray Breach, another to Ft Lauderdale, another to Ft Pierce. Then 2 years ago I visit a lifelong friend, practically family,in the village of Bonneybrook at TV.
Nuff said, here I am! 040 040 :hot:

Re: what did you think when you were young and heard.............
I always thought of Florida as God's waiting room, full of pasty, dried-out old people. >
When I discovered TV, I couldn't believe how vibrant everyone is, and what fun everyone is having. Everywhere you look you see people laughing and dancing. Here in TV, we get to rock on and act like kids, and what could better!!

Re: what did you think when you were young and heard.............
Beady and Barefoot, I could have written your posts. I never thought I would come to Florida for my older years. Now I can't imagine being anywhere else. I love living in The Villages.. in Florida. The kids and grands love to visit here and it wouldn't surprise me if they ended up here in their older years.

Re: what did you think when you were young and heard.............
We will be part of the third generation of my family to retire to Florida.
Both sets of my grandparents retired to Bradenton and Lake Worth in the late 50's (about the only organized activities were canasta parties and suffleboard)
My mother to TV about 15 yrs ago - still in historic side (she has made 3 hole in ones!)
Me and two brothers with wives soon to retire and be snowbirds for the first few years

Re: what did you think when you were young and heard.............
I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to live in Florida, unless, maybe, it was Miami and even that was doubtful. Who wanted to live with a bunch of old folks walking around in Hawaiian shirts or, worse yet, laying on the beach in the swimsuits (never mind their Speedos).
Yet, here I be and so glad I'm here. The community, the activities, the fun! Last time I could play this much was in kindergarten (and worked just about the same amount of time).

Re: what did you think when you were young and heard.............
I said...NOT ME..."I'll never move to Florida! Who would want to be around all the old people when you're old? I want to stay near the young ones to help keep me young!"
Boy, have I eaten those words, plus many more throughout my years!

Re: what did you think when you were young and heard.............
Not too many years ago we used to laugh at Jerry Seinfeld's skits about his parents living in Boca Del Vista Phase 2. I couldn't imagine living in a place like that, even though I was already in my 60's. Then........I visited TV. Now......can't wait to move there. Gotta sell this house! I hope the Fed lowering the interest rate again helps move the market along a bit. 040

Re: what did you think when you were young and heard.............
Actually when I was much younger I thought of Miami as a very glamorous place to be. Went there with my parents when I was about 13 and thought that I was a movie star walking down Collins Ave. The Fountain Blue and Frank Sinatra, all those great hotels at that time. Then I started to hear stories of it going downhill and started to hear of it only as a retirement area. That changed again when my husband and I started to cruise a 8)lot taking off from Miami and we saw all the new construction, beautiful buildings, South Beach and Bayside shopping. Everything seemed new and revitalized again. And that's exactly how moving to FL and TV has made me feel. I love it!
