The foods that comfort me most are my mother's staples from when I was a child: corned beef hash, spaghetti and meatballs, chili with cornbread, and corn chowder.

CFrance, my sister mocks my "kid food," but I even still eat beans and wienies every so often, too!

I am embarrassed to admit that our 41-year-old son will still eat Spagettios with wieners! Did I feed him that?? Don't tell VPL!

Sauerbraten with gingersnap gravy.

DAnder2829 08-09-2014 04:04 PM

Lobster!

rdhdleo 08-09-2014 04:05 PM

Ooooh there are so many that were mentioned here that I love! However one does come to mind, a good BLT made with lots of the B(Bacon) and home grown tomatoes and REAL Mayo!
Love chicken and dumplings but have never been good at the dumpling part, maybe TIPPYCLUBB would share her recipe??? Pretty please....LOL

Shimpy 08-09-2014 04:07 PM

Fried chicken and toll house (chocolate chip) cookies. If the doctor gave me 6 weeks to live I'd pig out on them. Until then I steer away.

My favorite sammich - add a few drops of A-1 sauce onto the mayo. Yahoo!

Layer cake with buttercream frosting.

kfierle 08-09-2014 05:27 PM

Tuna noodle casserole with peas. Also, macaroni and cheese with tomatoes. (Don't knock it until you have tired it!)

To tag onto the "Don't knock it," Elvis stopped to early with the peanut butter and banana sandwich recipe....mayo is a must with this combo...been eating them all my life.

Not all at the same time but - fried chicken, real French fries, corned beef hash out of the can with two sunny up fried eggs on top, chipped beef on toast (I use Stouffers), boiled chicken gizzards with onions and rice, Spam sandwiches, tuna fish sandwiches with onions and relish, baby veal liver with onions, fried chicken livers, hearts and gizzards, stuffed potato skins (no bacon please), sardines on crackers, smoked oysters on crackers, hoy salsa and ruffled potato chips and beer.

To name a few.

Mac 'n cheese with tomatoes... My MIL introduced me to this. Yummy!
Also, she put stewed tomatoes on turkey stuffing instead of gravy. Also yummy.:mmmm:

Tuna noodle casserole with peas but the noodles have to be shells and the soup has to be cream of celery.

I've never tried bananas on it, but peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches were another staple at our house. My sister and I were never on the "wanna trade sandwiches" list with the other kids in elementary school, but I much prefer it to PB&J.

Honestly, I still have the same palate I had when I was 8 years old.

Goose foie gras with black truffles on toast along with a nice red Bordeaux such as a Chateau Palmer. A French friend told me which farm in the Perigord produced the best foie gras. He was right!

BLTs with vine-ripened tomatoes. Campbell's Cream of Tomato Soup with crushed potato chips or with saltines and cream cheese. Hershey's Kisses. Bachmann's Pretzel Rods. Vanilla ice cream with Hershey's Chocolate Syrup. Sweet corn with butter. Filet mignon medium rare, mashed potatoes, and salad with blue cheese dressing.

For comfort food you cannot beat Lambert's in Sikeston, Mo. And Ozark, Mo., between Springfield and Branson. They are known as the home of "throwed rolls". Huge delicious dinner rolls that they throw to anyone who holds their hand up when they bring them out. They serve entrees like meatloaf, fried chicken, catfish and such, and they go table to table with sides such as macaroni and tomatoes, fried okra, green beans, and fried potatoes and onions. Everything is all you care to eat and you won't go away hungry or disappointed.

Hey, I heard that! Spagettios are the absolute worst, yuck! And wieners? That's bad, very bad. Does he have health insurance?

As far as me answering the question, what my favorite comfort food is, I don't understand the question. I only eat healthy whole foods and every meal is a comfort to me. And it's even more comforting to enjoy good health and not have to take any prescription medication.
