Had 2 friends who had matching 69 GTX's. There were not many cars that could beat them 0-60, and we did a lot of street racing. Both were 440's, 375HP. And talk about burning rubber; 400 feet double stripes! I measured with a tape measure. And the sound from those engines still rings in my ears 50 years later.

First car was a 1968 Jeepster Commando, convertible, with a Buick V-6 motor; second, and favorite all time, was a 1969 Camero SS, 350 V-8, 4-speed; current is a 2016 Ford F-150, full circle back to a small V-6 .....

As an example of why a non-mechanical senior citizen and his 16-year old granddaughter should not go car shopping together, I present the Sunbeam Imp (known as the Hillman in the UK).
It was several years old when we bought it in 1968 and it turned out that only three cylinders were working. Could not make it up a hill and spent a lot of the time I owned it in a specialty repair shop for foreign cars. Fortunately I jazzed it up by adding a peel and stick red racing stripe over the top along with groovy flowered shelf liner on the inside metal door panels! My current car is a 2011 Toyota RAV4 with about 2K miles and a Star Wars decal. Still sticking things on my car. Last edited by queasy27; 04-03-2020 at 01:21 PM. |

A 1961 Nash Metropolitan. It sold new for $1600 and my dad bought it when it was a year old for $800. Had a 3 speed on the column, was green/white just like this except mine had a black convertiable top. They quit making the Metropolitan in '62, I had to wait until '65 when I got my learner's permit to drive it, but my dad was thinking ahead.
