One day, nearing my 40th birthday, I found myself thinking deeply about my Mom, the day she gave me birth and all that had transpired since that time. I decided to send her flowers to honor her on my special day.
I continued every year after that, sending different flowers each time.

After she passed away, I found all the cards that had accompanied each bouquet, tucked in an envelope with my name on it.. On the back of each card she had written:
'...and I love you so...'

Now my birthdays are days to joyfully think of Momma, 'send' her lots of love.... and just be happy! A very cool thing.

In your breast beats a loving heart. I've noticed that before. You are special!

IMHO

I think people celebrate to feel love so they are capable of giving love back.

How else would us bachelors know it's time to change our socks?

Don't wear socks. Problem solved! :1rotfl:

There are no wrong answers to this question.

Do you celebrate because you are genuinely happy to be older?

(Oops! I think I posted on the wrong board.)

Yes, each passing year is a gift that I take time to do inventory on myself. Did I grow and have I made a difference in the world? The answer is not always pretty, but it gives me something to strive for, and change. Twenty more years I'll be almost perfect.

Growing old has plenty of opportunities. Finally, we slow down and smell the roses and appreciate the beauty life has to offer. So yes celebrate your birthdays and honor all that you have accomplished in life.

Wow! You "knocked my socks off"! (But it was time to change them anyway). Really - beautiful response!

That's a beautiful story!
As for me, I love birthdays! I used to celebrate the day, then the week. Somewhere it rolled into the Birth Month (friends had a hard time getting together), now it's the Birth Season. It's a great thing to celebrate!
