What a dumb idea! Pay all us retires $1200 for what? I'm not being affected financially at all by the virus pandemic. I will still get my SS check each month along with a pension check.
That money should be going to people that have been put out of work and are in need!

I agree with you completely. That money needs to go to people who really need it. Many have lost their jobs and are suffering. If and when I receive it, I’m seriously considering donating it to a food pantry or something like that.

The check will be based on your income, a good number of people here will receive nothing, as it should be. Last I read, the income would be based on your 2018 returns, don't know it that changed.

There are lots of seniors who barely get by on SS checks and don't have a pension. You are not everyone.

I think the intent is for you to SPEND IT!

It’s then a win-win...helping you and struggling businesses to get people BACK to work.

Agree not everyone here retired with large pensions and or SSI checks, some have also lost their spouses and their incomes so they could certainly use the check when it comes. It's based on your filing income whether or not you get one and how much it will be period .

Why are retirees getting a check? The same reason the Kennedy Center is getting $25 million. Politics.

Why don't you think of this instead of picking on those on SS...
If your out of work and were making $99,000 a year (that's almost $2,000 a week) you will be getting $2,000 unemployment benefits every week for sitting at home. As Electrician 12 years ago I was making $80+K per/year, when I went on furlough I got $246 per/week not $1,500 from unemployment benefits, $246.00 was the cap at that time, thank God my Union was able to supplement that....

Don’t want your money then donate it to an organization that could use it more than you.

True, but they were in the same situation before this epidemic. The money should be used for those whose situations changed DUE TO the epidemic.

Have you not noticed the number of seniors working here in The Villages? Many are doing so to supplement their SSI and may be affected due to business and restaurant closings. I bet they do not qualify for unemployed payments so the $1200 will be a big help!

If you do not need the money donate it to a church or local food bank. I am sure they will be very appreciative of you donation.

That would be super simple to figure out, probably take only a year or two.
