Because they have not lost their jobs should they be denied the payment as well?

That money should be going to people that have been put out of work and are in need!
Election coming Nov, expecting you to vote. That said I agree with you

I am just hoping that those on the lower end of the income scale...are the ones getting money.

The amount of annual income, should also include those drawing yearly from investment income.

In other words, as far as I'm concerned, ALL money flowing into a household, regardless of the source...should be used in calculating who is eligible to receive money from this bill.

As far as I'm concerned, I've come to the conclusion that the vast majority of it should go toward those who need it the most and whose entire current household income...should not exceed $60K single and $100K total.

What I'm afraid of however, is that those making that amount of money right now may end up losing their jobs permanently and then all bets against us slipping into an actual DEPRESSION...are off.

One thing is for sure though, the biggest beneficiaries of the last 'Great Tax Cut' have the least to worry about...and shouldn't get a damned dime this time around.

While I shouldn't qualify for anything on this new relief bill, if there is a screw up and "they" end up sending me any amount of money...it won't be with me for long.

If you read/hear about someone wandering around grocery stores, handing out Benjamin's (with gloved hands of course) to those appearing to need it the most (and yes, I realize that one can be fooled by appearances)...I say in advance that I don't know anything about it.

Calculator for coronavirus check

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graph...ck-calculator/

Its pretty simple, based on your 2019 (or 2018) tax return and adjusted gross income

Easy to figure out if you're going to be handing out benjamins at Publix soon

I agree that most of us don't need it and shouldn't get it but I also agree that those that are currently getting government aid should not. Their income hasn't changed, what they made in 2019 is what they make now so their life and budget doesn't change. The 1200 won't make that much of a difference. If someone is working now they shouldn't get it now but there should be a mechanism that if they lose their job as a result of the virus impact they can file and receive it. Let the bashing begin.

I'm with you, ColdNoMore and I find it interesting no discussion on Socialism with this topic. A government handout usually causes a big blowup on this forum and is not favored.

When I first heard about this potential windfall, I thought it would be a good time to buy the bike I was considering. Then I sat back and thought about all those people and their families that just had their livelihood knocked out beneath them. Cornavirus hits and we worry about no toilet paper. Many people have to worry about how to get food on the table and keep roofs over their heads.

There was 3.8m people who filed for unemployment in one week!! At certain points in each of our lives, most of us could have been in their shoes. These people have to worry about money and a pandemic, simultaenously.

Now these government payments may be needed by some here in the Villages, but many of us can survive without it. Most of us should step up and join ColdNoMore in handing out Benjamins in the next few weeks. Seek out your favorite server or retail clerk that has been laid off. See a hard working hero like a nurse or grocery clerk who is risking their health and hand them a bonus. Is the fitness instructor no longer able to help you...maybe help them. There are any number of ways. You can always give it to a foodbank or similar place of assistance, but in this time, maybe direct assistance will better benefit an individual.

Anyhow...keep safe. We will get through this if we help each other, but it will take a bit to get back to normal or at least the new normal.

So... I was thinking. If you do receive a stimulus check of $1200 or any amount really, if you are comfortable without it, how about investing it in a stock that you like. That would bolster the company, and face it, most are in trouble. This would ultimately pay you a dividend down the road so both the company and you win. Without companies, there are no jobs and without jobs, we become Venezuela.

After 9/11 When Wall Street took a big hit, there was a campaign in New York to buy “just one share” to start rebuilding. I bought one share of Walt Disney stock and to this day I do receive a quarterly dividend. It’s not much, change really, but it was something to show support after a really tough time. We are facing a horribly rough time head of us.

How can you take a socialistic payment and keep it for yourself. Corporations are not the ones that need a bailout. It is the small business owner and their workers that need the assistance. Try thinking of someone other than how to benefit yourself in these tough times.

BTW, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration, a common misconception about the U.S. economy is that is dominated by huge corporations. Small business makes up roughly 99 percent of all independent enterprises in the country. Small business are defined as those that employ fewer than 500 people. This means small businesses technically dominate the markets in the United States, accounting for 52 percent of all workers.

Find ways to help the true backbone of this country.

Exactly. The point of a STIMULUS check is to SPEND the money. Not save it, not keep it, not invest it. The point of stimulus funds is to re-circulate the economy. Get the money flowing, not just sitting in one spot or building up in investments and stocks.

If you want to support your local bike shop, then BUY that bike. That is what this money is for.

If you want to enjoy take-out every day for the next month, PERFECT. That is exactly what this money is for.

If you want to pay a phone bill so that you can afford to indulge in some new clothes purchased from your local boutique (delivered, of course, since the store is closed) then go for it. That's what the money is for.

So you can support these shops that you love so much, and keep them in business by BUYING from them.
