Everyone's getting a check working or not working retired or disabled as long as your income is under $75,000 a year

More than likely, you had to file a w-2 form to show income, or loss of income. We need a better explanation on how this is going to work!

It’s a stimulus check to stimulate the economy. Spend it at our local businesses or donate it to a local charity.

Both White House and Congress hope that you all will spend a few trillion dollars to get the economy from being crashed!

You did a good job justifying to yourself that spending the money on yourself if you have not been impacted is the best use of the funds. Yes, if you spend it on yourself, it will provide stimulus to the economy. However, if you gave the money to those that have been laid off or in more need, I have a suspicion that they will also spend the money to help the economy. Then if you spend your existing funds on your needs, then you really will provide additional stimulus into the economy. Win-Win.

BTW, the recovery will be longer than most are estimating so you are fooling yourself if you think that those that have lost their jobs will be remotely made whole by the extended unemployment funds. The majority of us Villagers should count our blessings.

And you’ve done a good job of convincing yourself that you’re wiser and more selfless than the poor, ignorant common folk out there.

I don't "need" it either, but I can imagine the firestorm that would result if the leadership of this country said, "No checks to senior citizens as they don't need them". It's a ridiculous premise that older Americans shouldn't be part of this financial stimulus package. I plan to send the money to my kids and suggest anyone who feels they don't need the money to the same or donate it to some worthy cause.

Oh don’t be stupid! There are strict restrictions on those checks! Full Retirees will never get them! Only working people who lost jobs! The details of this will be out soon! Nobody retired is expecting this money! 🤦*♀️

You are absolutely positively completely entirely incorrect.

This has nothing to do with whether or not you're working or retired.

It has to do with your actual INCOME. If your retirement income is low, then you will receive the check. There are people who live on pensions, who are not working because they're retired, but their pensions aren't high enough to hit that cap of $99,999 per person. And so, they will receive a stimulus check.

There are people who are retired, live on pensions, and don't collect social security yet (you have to be 62 or older to collect, many people retire before they reach that age even if they're not wealthy).

There are people who collect social security but no pension, and their social security checks are modest and under that threshhold.

There are people who are not working, and not retired yet. They'll be getting a check too. This isn't money people are getting because they've "earned" it. It is money people are getting so the citizens can boost the local economy and prevent more stores from closing, and prevent more people in the unemployment lines.

Here is a link to Clark Howard's website that has a lot of information about the checks. People on Social Security will get checks.

What a lovely bunch of comments! We have:

virtue signalers telling us they will hand out benjamins at Publix
cranky old men demanding proof that virus must have affected you financially to get check
people who say they don't need it, will donate
people who say they need it, will spend it

If you followed this legislation closely, you would know a few facts

Original bill drafted by republicans in senate had means testing at the top and the bottom, no check if you made over 100k, smaller check ($600) if you collected SS but did not have at least $2500 in additional earnings.
After negotiations with Schumer and Pelosi, who screamed unfair to include the bottom means testing and wanted a whole truckload of other crap added to the bill. In the end they compromised and we have the bill as signed into law.

Spend it, donate it however you want. Hopefully it helps revive the economy.

What I am seeing here from many is the usual knee-jerk reaction. No matter what, some are not going to be happy with what our government does or doesn't do. Maybe many here don't "need" the money. Fine. But can you imagine how long it would take for anyone who desperately needs it to get it if there had to be additional screening first? Some people here may have children that have been put out of work and need it. Send it to them. Buy food and supplies specifically to donate to food banks, etc. Pay someone's hospital bill whose insurance doesn't stretch that far. There are so many ways to put this money to use.

How about putting the money to good use, instead of complaining about it? It's a done deal, so now go from there. Complaining accomplishes nothing good.
