It is all semantics and while technically correct it is misleading.
If that day mayo is priced at $5.99 a jar and there is a BOGO free, you will save $5.99 if you pick up two jars.nas opposed to buying one then coming back later to get another. Does not mean you cannot get mayo cheaper somewhere else or another day at WD. |

Warren, as a Coupon Queen and Super Shopper, I can verify that what you say is correct. My friend who worked at Winn Dixie as a cashier can testify that prices get raised during BOGO free sales.
Although I feel that it would really be hard work changing all those item price tags down the aisles during a sale, she swears it goes on. But who knows really? I have bought many thousands (if not millions) of products at Winn Dixie since 1976 and have watched many changes for sure. One thing about the ad, it is usually for all over the region. Some prices in different areas may be different. For instance, Miami may be higher than The Villages and they could be selling their mayo for $5.99 although it sells here for $5.29. That's just an example but if you look at the ad, it says 'Save Up To $$??'. That way they can cover all the territories and states. |

If You NEED an item ..and..also need the lowest price...
........one could simply take the competitive Ad to Wal-Mart. ................Wal-Mart will MATCH the price ......right at the checkout. This will allow you to "Always" get the lowest price in your market area. This is simply a statement of FACT..... ...........................no lectures about Wal-Mart needed. |

I seldom go for "buy one get one free" because it usually seems as though they (all stores) do jack up the price of the product. Even if they once had the product at a lower price, that doesn't make it a fraud. If they first set the price higher for about 5 days, they can then offer "buy one get one free" at the higher price. This is usually how it works with all sale items.
Another reason why I usually don't go for "buy one get one" is that the products in general are usually highly marked-up items, and are highly processed unhealthy foods anyway. Who needs it? |
25 posts later about a jar of Mayo. The way I see it is, why tie up $5.99 of your money to get a jar free, when a jar may last you 2 months or maybe more, when you can get a jar from Walmart for $3.49 and spend the $2.50 you saved for another product. Also, chances are you will forget you have another jar somewhere in the pantry when you run out of the original purchase.

I love to save money on groceries but there is no use losing the stuff you get in the back of the danged pantry shelf. Sometimes I shop at Publix and don't pay attention to the prices. Sometimes Helene gets to me before I go out the door and puts a big wad of coupons in my hand and sometimes I use them. Sometimes I go to Walmart to stock up on staples and other bargains. Sometimes I go to Sweetbay. I hardly ever go to Fresh Market, too rich for my blood plus I can still cook fairly well and other than the ready made entrees that I can do myself, I don't see much that I am inclined to buy there. |

Every year, Publix offers "California Fresh Figs" at "buy 1 get 1 free". Save up to $5.99 (16oz. pkg.) I called the store and talked to the manager, telling him that it was too many figs and I couldn't use that many. He said, "come in and pick out one container and bring it to the service desk and I will approve it for sale at $2.99". Will it work with a different product at another store? I don't know, but it's worth a try. Good luck. |
