Republicans want to end Medicare and Medicaid? Privatizing social security may not be a bad idea seeing as how congress borrowed trillions for it and never paid it back. I disagree with privatizing the VA however. The VA should just be demolished. Just give our veterans top notch medical coverage and let them go to the doctors and hospitals of their choice. It would be a lot cheaper and the quality of care would be a lot better than that bungled bureaucracy. It's becoming obvious even to those on the left that Obamacare is not working. Premiums have increased by 125% in some states. It can never work and I don't think it was ever meant to work. IMHO it was a first step to single payer, government, cradle to the grave healthcare. |

"President-elect Donald Trump's selection of Rep. Tom Price to head the Department of Health and Human Services signals that the new administration is all-in on both efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and restructure Medicare and Medicaid. Price, a Georgia Republican who currently chairs the House Budget Committee, was among the first to suggest that not just the ACA but also Medicare are on the near-term agenda for newly empowered Republicans. Privatizing the Medicare program for seniors and disabled people and turning the Medicaid program for the poor back to the states are long-time goals for Republicans in Congress and the White House. They say the moves could help put the brakes on health spending. Opponents argue, however, that both changes are aimed instead at shifting the financial burden of health care from the federal budget to states and individuals." Access Denied Just noticed my link say "access denied"... don't get it, but it is US News and World Report on the Price appointment On the VA, does not Trump want to simply ADD private care as a choice to existing centers ? |

Anyway, back to the thread subject.
I want to thank all ten or twelve of the libtards that demonstrated to get the Electors to change their vote. The Electors did change their votes and gave Hillary a final tally less than what the count was on election day. So, you all were convincing and it was not a waste of time. Trump thanks you. |

Do you still have relatives in MA? Are any of them enrolled in Romneycare (the model for Obamacare). This health care insurance has been in place since 2004, passed when Mitt Romney was governor. It covers 100% of children, 90% of adults and has an approval rating of 85%. All these people will lose their decade old insurance when Obamacare is repealed. Insurance companies will be able to drop customers if/when they get sick. They will be able to deny coverage to anyone with a pre-existing condition. Anybody using prescription drugs will have to contend with the doughnut hole. Gone are all the diagnostic tests which currently have no co-pays. Obamacare benefits Medicare enrollees as much as it benefits the 22 million ACA enrollees. Quote:
Thanks for the link. This was another big lie by Trump. He said over and over (sometimes three times a day) that he would not touch the social safety net covering millions of people. Could some of them be his own voters? But in less than two weeks after winning the election, he selects Rep Tom Price, MD (R-GA) as his sec of HHS. This is the same guy who thinks women should be fired from their jobs if they use birth control. Can anyone explain the logic behind that? |

He lied so much and these folks still buy into what he is selling. He is a good salesman, and we complain about the landscapers promising and then walking away ! "So what would happen if Ryan got his wish and Medicare became privatized? Rather than having the federal government cover seniors' medical costs, as Medicare currently works, the federal government would supply seniors with federal subsidies that would help them purchase private insurance. It's a system that Ryan says would fix the "serious problems" introduced by the Affordable Care Act — but according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, Obama's healthcare reform actually improved Medicare's finances, and the program is further from bankruptcy than its ever been." What Does Privatizing Medicare Mean? It Could Have A Significant Impact On Coverage "Privatization of Medicare means changing Medicare from a guaranteed benefits program for seniors into a premium assistance program: a voucher or coupon an individual uses to buy insurance on the open market. The coupon has a fixed value – there’s no guarantee a person can get the level of coverage they need, nor the monthly premiums or deductibles that are affordable on a fixed income. A $500 coupon is useless if the product the person needs to buy costs $5000 a month." Privatized Medicare means there would no longer be a guarantee that senior citizens have health insurance coverage for hospital visits (Medicare Part A that usually has no monthly premium). It also means higher costs for doctor visits and prescription drugs (Medicare Parts B and D, both of which already require monthly premiums for most retirees). Increases would happen because privatizing Medicare shifts the negotiating power away from the government and onto the individual against the open market. All retirees on Medicare are basically a giant insurance “group”, and the government uses those millions of members as leverage when negotiating rates. Privatizing puts you – alone – against the insurance companies; buying your own private health insurance policy." What Does Privatization of Medicare and Social Security Mean? This should be of great concern to anyone living here, and not being an insurance expert by any stretch of the imagination, anyone with a background, please jump in and either reinforce the fears or reduce them with your expertise. |
A but more on this Medicaire plan. Trying to read as much as possible on Ryans plan, which it appears the President elect now endorses
"On the campaign trail, President-elect Donald Trump promised not to touch Medicare or Social Security, but Trump's selection of Tom Leppert to lead the "landing team" at the Social Security Administration may suggest Trump's administration could move in a different direction." http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewir...on-of-medicare This is speaking of the Ryan plan and if I recall the President elect said in a general way that he endorses all his plans... "He calls his plan, unveiled in June, “A Better Way.” Key elements include raising the age of eligibility from 65 to 67; merging Medicare Part A and B, including the premiums and deductibles; and gradually privatizing the system with government-issued vouchers or “premium supports” to defray the cost of insurance policies purchased by seniors on the open market." Trump voters didn’t take him literally on Obamacare. Oops? - The Washington Post
This opinion column says that 30 million people could lose their health care with no replacement. The largest demographic involved is Trump voters, who say they took Trump's threat figuratively, not literally. Oops. |
Trump voters ----you should be careful what you wish for. Seriously, what did you expect from a billionaire who four times filed bankruptcy and "screwed" his investors---you were going to believe a guy with as little intregity as that? Fortunately, there are checks and balances built into our form of government. It's going to be a train wreck but somebody will come along and put the train back on the track. But....I'm afraid it's going to be a long four years.

Remember all the protestors when the electors met to vote on Obama? Of course not, cause it never happened. Obama beat Mitt Romney by five million votes. Remember when Obama spent months after he won chastising John McCain and Mitt Romney? Again it never happened. |
