Yes, it does matter what the number and percentages of American public and private elementary, middle, high school, colleges and universities are teaching - and disciplining in those methods with trigger warnings and micro-aggressions.
It shows if this is a wide spread thing or just a microcosm. Please find and post if you are to be credible.

Have YOU ever had a very traumatic situation personally that seeing it again would make you re-live the pain? Those do happen. Joe Theissman had it happen after LT snapped his leg and he had to watch the slo-mo play on television over and over. Joe re-lived that horrible moment and never got over hearing that bone break. Rape trauma, burn trauma, or even taunting trauma can be debilitating for some people. Re-living it through film, books, or words can be unbearable.

As for different discipline, once again, you would have to show us the schools by location and how many times it happens for you to be credible on this claim.

As for displaying something that offends others and being punished being wrong since there is Freedom of Speech - imagine a high school teacher in downtown Detroit going to work wearing a tee shirt that has emblazoned "I Hate Muslims" on it. That teacher will not have a job any longer - but she was expressing Freedom of Speech, wasn't she. Right or wrong?

If you read the links I supplied from the New York Times, and others, then you are aware of the scope.

Your examples leave me speechless. Comparing a football injury to educating children with historical reasoning on facts that are facts and are not related to you is quite a difference. To say to a child, I am not going to teach you this fact, or want to warn you that this fact might upset you is not even on the same planet as a football player watching tapes. Sorry, we view free speech and education through completely different prisms. Education coddling is a bit of a reach for me. "Oh I never studied that in school, I thought it would be too traumatic". Sorry, not my world I suppose. If that makes me insensitive, sorry, but the world is what it is, not what we wish it to be, and life is not going to allow you a pass because it might upset you.

And your other example, I am quite sure that a teacher wearing such a shirt is VIOLATING A SCHOOL DISTRICT POLICY. A man in a parade is not subject to those kinds of rules and regulations

Your link from the NY Times says the trigger warnings are just proposals from some students.

You have lost ALL credibility and just want to rant about something that is not happening. Please come back when you have something real to contribute .

I have been called worse than "losing all credibility" and since I have no idea how to get your posts, I will assume that as you imply, you are a bit above me in all areas, HOWEVER....

May I suggest that, on your own which I know is possible because you are full of credibility, you investigate beyond a link given in answer to a question as to what it was. Yeah, I had to read to get that link and I bet with all your credibility that you can do the same. You mind find it is about more widespread than you think, but how would I know anything, right ?

Yes, I am. Thank you realizing that fact. Now, go have a drink of iced tea and relax.

As you can see, I am not playing the name-calling game anymore. I will call out when something's is not presented in full, though. Still open to meeting over an iced tea anywhere you choose. How about burying the hatchet?

With apologies to other posters

Sorry, Lord...too long a period of time of lies and personal insults for me to even think of trust. If you are still doing what you have done over the years..cannot tell on here for sure...but if that is you, really nothing has changed.

As you said, I have no credibility at all, and you soar above me so I best leave your playground, which I thought was changing but obviously not. See ya

The usual nonsense from the TOTV "get off of my lawn" crowd. If you worry about progressives and what they are teaching kids in school. There is hope for all of you Tea Party conservatives in Texas and Louisiana.

Was Moses a Founding Father? - The Atlantic

Loch Ness monster cited by US schools as evidence that evolution is myth - The Scotsman

So next time you read about US students being behind the rest of the world in math and science, give a big shout out to dopes like Rick Perry and "Bobby" Jindahl for their proud contributions to education.

While I disagree and take offense to the attitude reflected in your post, I agree and thank you for the links, although the one from Scotland just confused me.

I could care less what party is trying to change history for some political gain, it is totally wrong.

BUT the thread was/is not about what you posted.

This thread is about already approved subject matter and allowing what I will call a pause because of some perceived hurt.

IT IS NOT ABOUT SELECTING TEXT BOOKS THUS YOUR USUAL NONSENSE COMMENT WAS UNNECESSARY.

IF I were you, I would revisit the definitions of the two terms being discussed and this time pay attention. If you want to begin a thread on text book selection, I think you should, but your post has no relevance to what has been or is being discussed.

If I sound "short" I just do not understand people who have this need to be snide, and it is they who are not even speaking to the subject.

Guest 07-09-2015 08:29 PM

Another comment to the poster who had a need to change the subject of the thread and broach something that has not even been mentioned.....what, may I ask, allows you the arrogance to call two sitting Governors "stupid" ? If you have a need to do that, have the honesty to at least validate it in some way.

I am sure your personal background would put to shame Gov Jindals degree from Brown University. His acceptance at both Harvard Medical school and Yale law school, but I am sure your resume would show him to be stupid. Studying at Oxford, and becoming a Rhodes Scholar sure did not bring him to your status, but he tried.

I do not offer much support for President Obama, or Ms Clinton, but I could not even bring myself to type and call them stupid under any circumstances.

Guest 07-09-2015 08:46 PM

I apologize.....poster did not call the Governors "stupid".....he referred to them as "dopes"

Can't resist always attacking the source and ignoring the message....oh well.

Of course I do not believe ALL of the residents of DC want to tear down the Jefferson Memorial or rename Washington, DC just like all of the Americans who do not want the confederate flag treated as it has been in recent weeks!!!!

You obviously are aware that the laws of the land do not take into consideration any majority anymore. They respond to special interests and minority representations that meet the current political agenda and amplified for false credibility by the media.

Just like one person can get a school board to change something their child does not like in school.

Just like one person can object to the 10 commandments being in a public place.

Or how about the few who do not want to offend anybody by saying Merry CHRISTmas.

Sorry........your notion of ALL having to back a position does not work in America any more......and YOU know it!

so individuals should have no voice in government?
