Default Best Political Quote Of The Week...Maybe The Year Or Even The Decade!!

In a recent CNN interview, retired Republican Senator from Wyoming Alan K. Simpson, who recently co-chaired the White House Commission On Fiscal Responsibility and Reform said...
"...if you ever hear a politician say, 'I know we can get this done, we're going to get rid of all earmarks, all waste, fraud and abuse, all foreign aid, Air Force One and Congressional pensions'...that's just sparrow belch in the midst of a typhoon. You gotta dig into the big four--Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and defense spending, and if any politician tries to tell you otherwise, you'd better walk out the door, stick your finger down your throat and (using a familiar gesture) give 'em the green weenie."
By the way, did anyone notice that the initial federal budget proposal coming from the House of Representatives last week called for spending cuts totaling $32 billion dollars? Let's see, that's a budget cut of .82% and it didn't touch any of the "big four". That level of spending would still produce an annual deficit for 2011 of about $1.4 trillion and increase the national debt to about $16 trillion dollars!

Now that's what I call bold governance and real fiscal conservatism....gag! No wonder they waited until the TV screens were consumed with scenes of riots in Cairo to put out the press release describing their bold fiscal leadership. Maybe they thought no one was paying attention.
