Default A bright sign....

Finally at least some bright signs perhaps from our wonderful congress..

"Key members of both parties said Wednesday that they are close to agreeing on the main elements of a bill to overhaul the nation's financial regulations, raising the prospect that the Senate could begin formal discussion of the landmark legislation early next week."

Agreed, Bucco. This is the way it's supposed to work.

It seems to me that it's supposed to begin with someone proposing the legislative agenda. It can be the President or maybe the leadership of the Congress--leaders from both parties, not just one.

After that, the legislative process begins. Everyone can't get everything they want in a piece of legislation, so it seems to me they're supposed to negotiate to get as much as they can from each party or ideology side.

The problem we've had is that one side or the other says "If I can't have it totally my way, I won't play at all. I won't agree with anything you want to do."

Maybe this is a good sign for the future. I hope so. The other thing that is really different on this bill is that the Congress seemed to ignore the entreaties by the lobbyists trying to weaken or even block the bill--"a withering attack by the lobbyists" said by President Obama. If the bill can be passed over the objections of the lobbyists, that would be a REALLY good sign!
