Helene, I see that you will be living in the Bonita Village... congrats, it's a lovely area! We just toured the area recently and thought it was great.

I also see there is a lot of indignation that the developer won't promote the opposition party in The Daily Sun. Mr. Peachie and I always start and stop the subscription of The Daily Sun when we are in town because we enjoy much of the information we derive from it's contents. We DO NOT, however, consider this a "newspaper" from which to gather hard news or event information of the Democratic Party. And most of the informed people in TV have a newspaper delivered in addition to The Daily Sun or read online additions of other news sources. (There is much bias in any newspaper, hard to find unbiased reporting these days).

So don't be afraid to enjoy The Daily Sun when in TV but realize as most of The Villagers do, it is an advertising piece for the developer with interesting articles and classified ads and not meant to promote political foes. We personally, would never read one news source for information, balance is always needed.

Enjoy your new home! :coolsmiley:

Baloney... If Caroline Kennedy is coming to this community and The Daily Sun decides to not cover the story that is censorship. I'm starting to understand how and why the POA got started.

To all of you who bash the local paper for being conservative or whatever else you may say...do you criticize the New York Times, The New York Daily News, The New York Post, The Chicago Tribune for any "bent" or leaning they have ???????

This paper of course is not in their league in so many ways, but even more reason to understand. Read and enjoy the Daily Sun for what it is worth...if you rely on it for all of your hard news then you are uninformed !! Why bash the paper !!!

I don't rely on it for "hard news"... but it's really scary and sad to learn that I can't rely on it to learn what's happening in The Villages.

I'm a conservative Republican. However, if I knew I was moving to a community where the "news"paper is whitewashed and censored I would have considered other golf communities in the sunbelt. I don't care what your political stance is.... when you grow up in America you read about news being censored in communist and other countries, not here. I still am hoping there is a reasonable explanation why this was not in The Daily Sun.

The villages is strictly republican, the paper sells homes, it is privatly owned they can do as they please. We are not happy about it but thats the way it is.when obama is pres.it will not change anything in TV. Just enjoy what we have here.

Guest 10-27-2008 09:06 PM

My guess is that there will be a story in the Tuesday morning edition.

It's difficult to grasp that you are a conservative Republican, rshoffer, if you have had no difficulty with the constant liberal skewering and controlling of the media regarding the promotion of the Democratic ticket but you are totally, totally outraged that a local, developer owned newspaper who is promoting his party will not give free publicity to the opponents. This response feels so out of kilter with your normally well-developed opinions of situations that it is strange to accept. And I had thought too, that Palin was announced very late in the game and maybe the same would be said for Schlossberg. Rather than fear you are being manipulated by The Daily Sun, why not subscribe to the Ocala or Orlando newpapers? But remember to allow for their slant also. And to everybody who does not yet understand, do read further than The Daily Sun for all of your hard news stories if you want a well rounded version of the same story.

AMEN...if anyone does not like the political ilk of the developer or his choice of news stories, CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION or ACCEPT THE PAPER FOR WHAT IT IS .....but stop the preaching !!!!

I think it's really sad and unfortunate that a city, village, or whatever we are, of 70,000, soon to be 100,000, does not have a news source that can report the news or even the upcoming events in an unbiased way. I have absolutely no problem with a newspaper leaning right or left, but that should be confined to the editorial or opinion pages. I realize that if we don't like it, we can subscribe to a newspaper from Ocala or Orlando or wherever, but we really don't have another choice of a paper if we want the local news. I love The Villages, but it is too bad that some people from the "friendliest" place can only offer a "love it or leave it" response. Wouldn't it be nice if we respected other people's opinions, even if they differ from ours.

Well, hit 'em straight. I'll see you in the shallow end of the pool.

You're absolutely right. You and I are on different teams here, but this is one thing we can completely agree on. It was especially annoying to me when I called the Savannah Center and they said they didn't know what I was talking about. Whose script were they reading from? Give me a break people. This is still America the last time I looked.!

We were told that anything negative is kept out of the Villages newspaper no matter what it pertains to. Could it be that they are just trying to keep it a "happy" place and some are making it sound like it is because of TV's owner's political leaning? Now I know that because it is oshunluva asking this that most folks are going to answer this just the way I think they will but that's ok.

And, what, pray tell, is negative about Caroline Kennedy coming to TV? The fact that is a speech for Obama? That's ridiculous.

Keeping this a secret is just wrong on so many levels. Censorship, people's right to know and make a free choice, etc.

Something tells me Ms. Kennedy would be a bigger draw than Gov. Palin. Too many of us remember the little girl who played under her daddy's desk in the White House and would love the opportunity to see her in person regardless of the political persuasion. Who knows? If it was advertised, they might have to use LSL and there might truly be 60,000 people there rather a large group counted several times to equal 60K.

Where in the world did you get my opinion about how the liberal media, especially the NY Times, has manipulated the election. I totally agree. I mistakengly thought the Daily Sun reported on events happening in The Villages. Consider this... let's say I was such political activist that I would want to excercise my constitutional right to demonstrate support or the GOP if/when speakers for the other party came here. I'd be in the dark if not for this forum. In fact, if I wasn't working I WOULD show up with my McCain/ Palin banners waving... Living here is a learning experience. Now I've learned. Like you say , "take the Daily Sun for what it is"....

Right on Talk Host... there's the story... Front Page Local section of the Sun. I got my shorts all in a bundle for nothing. I prefer a cold Yuengling and some salt and pepper with my crow. And Bucco, rest assured I'm in the conservative camp... guess I'm just a "Maverick"...

Guest 10-28-2008 06:25 AM

Shorts in a bundle, all right...

This is exactly the problem, the hysteria about censorship and the controlling developer created by Cassie's premature post was really something to watch from a distant eye. I remember not that long ago when it was proclaimed that the developer would NEVER allow a political candidate or supporter to use any of the Village facilities for a political rally. That was the first thing that came to mind when the piling on began on Mr. Morse's back, but then it has never taken much for people to hate this "evil" man and the beautiful oasis of living he has created. :faint:

I can't figure why my husband and I enjoy TV so much.....

Guest 10-28-2008 06:28 AM

I feel the job of a (good) newspaper is to report local events. As someone said, political leanings one way or another would be displayed in the editorial columns. What was annoying to many, was the fact that the Palin event was highly advertised and reported in a manner akin to "the coming of Christ", while Biden and Kennedy are little blurbs at best. To take the "love it or leave it" stance is in no way helpful. I hope that in the future, if we voice our concerns to "the management", we will eventually get some changes that will make The Villages a better place to live. If they hear it from enough people, they will get the message. If we go along like sheep, nothing will happen.
