Asked about domestic drone use for bomb-spotting by Danger Room, she replies, “A case has to be made that they’re economically feasible, not intrusive and acceptable to the public.”

So when did the DHS say that porn scanners and sexual groping were "economically feasible" and "not intrusive" and"acceptable to the public"?

I missed that memo.

The Department of Homeland Security and its evil twin TSA should be scrapped. These types of wacko comments are just routine with these people in Washington

Before anyone gets upset, lets look at this from a frequent flyer prospective, mine. I have been flying, not by choice, at least twice a week since Jan 4. Unfortunately I have the added burden of 2 implant knees and being a victim of childhood abuse. The new TSA pat down is just not acceptable to me on any level. So now before each trip I contact TSA Civil Rights division to make sure the airport has a ATI scanner....they also gave me a name to contact at the airport should I run into any trouble. Boy I have used those numbers.....

Since the first of the year I have flown out of, MCO, BOS, SFO, SLC and DTW. Each have the scanners but only SLC has a operational scanner for each lane. DTW has seen me 3 times with no problems. MCO only has 1 scanner operation for each side and in the 4 times I have flown out only once has there not been an issue. Once the scanner was being closed down for lunch but they held it open for me. Next it wasn't running at 5:00 am but I arrive now 3 hours in advance so I have some cushion.....This week I came just at lunch time so it was closed down but opened 20 minutes later. Just a note the TSA personnel at Orlando airport are very reasonable and have treated me with total respect.

In SFO the scanner was in the international terminal but TSA made arrangements for me and the 2 terminals were connected.

And then there is BOS just yesterday....yes they have scanners but the one on my concourse has been broken for 2 days and no repair people have shown up. I had only 3 choices submit to a pat down, stay until the scanner or try to rebook from another airport nearby. It was a very difficult decision especially considering the trauma caused by the last pat down at COS. (Not ever going back there and that is my home airport). The TSA supervisor could not have handled the situation any better....they let me take as much time as I needed to work up the courage to walk through that metal detector knowing what that meant.....And when I couldn't do it she came back to gently talk to me. When it came to the part of the down which troubles me she explained what she would do and did it very quickly. I got through the whole thing mainly with her help.

Why should I and others like me, the 2% who are required to do the pat down, be subjected to this procedure while the equipment required to detect a bomb is either not deployed, not working or closed for lunch? My motto is just because I have metal in my knees doesn't mean I have a bomb in my bra.

Of course as usual I didn't have a bomb in my bra or my panties so no one was made safer yesterday due to my screening.....

Tomorrow is ORD because MOL, Moline, IL, doesn't have a scanner so to attend my nephews wedding I have to fly into Chicago and drive 3.5 hours to avoid the pat down..... Isn't this fun?

I might take you up on that some day. I haven't flown since last Oct. because of the new directives. Like you I have medical implants, and the thought of some Bubba feeling up and around my privates is enough to cause me to take a 2 day drive to my former home area in NJ to see family when necessary, and I haven't gone through anything like the traumas you've experienced in life.

I can't understand why a very frequent flier like you cannot be Homeland Security Verified, like I was in order to carry hazardous materials in my truck driving days, and then given a special I.D. to show to security. It cost me $90 to get my background checked and receive the government mandated endorsement on my CDL license authorizing me to transport hazardous materials. It should be no big deal for the government to perform a similar procedure for very frequent fliers like you.

I hope, someday, common sense prevails, and this absurdity of every citizen being considered guilty until proven innocent at our nation's airports is drastically scaled back.

is a very effective concept. It requires thinking and herin lies the problem.
Secondly they would be more concerned with those (the other 2%) who MIGHT be invasion of privacy freaks.
Once they clear me they can put a chip in me to wave me by.
