Default An email message to my Congressperson

Time to wake up in DC. The war in Iraq is over. No WMD's, Saddam was tried and executed. The Iraqis have a democratically elected government. The war is over. bring the troops home from Iraq and step up the hunt for Osama Bin Laden elsewhere. Provide job assistance and training plus medical care for the returning troops that is equivalent to what every member of The Administration and Congress receives. The war is over, Mission accomplished.

Stop the Republican saber rattling about Iran. If they are a threat, then tell the neighbors of Iran to deal with their problem.

Stop shouldering a never ending disproportionate share of the cost in human lives and our national treasure for countries that are more than capable of taking on a bigger share of the burden themselves.

Energy, wake up and stop putting band aids on a gushing growing wounded domestic economy.

Start selling exploration and drilling rights for offshore and Alaskan Wilderness to US Headquartered firms that pay their fair share of taxes, with these provisions:
- any Company that explores and drills, must build refineries also. No refineries, no drilling.
- nothing that comes out of the ground goes anywhere else but the USA.

Automobiles and trucks
Impose MPG standards for automakers that require 30 MPG by 2010.

Lower speed limits on highways that get federal funds to 65 MPH for autos.

Reduce speed limits for trucks to 60 MPH on same highways and prohibit them from driving in left hand lanes. (This should save them fuel immediately and save them money and jobs).

Increase and extend incentives for purchases of Hybrid autos and home solar water heaters with Federal tax reductions to individual owners.

Appropriate federal funds for Interstate highway improvements and repairs and provide incentives for development of high speed passenger railroads alongside the Interstate system. Hub and spoke like airlines have done.

Stop all federal subsidies for alternative energy programs that remove food from the nation's food chain.

Lastly, stop doing things that are politically motivated to insure reelection and that only favor lobbyists and special interest group.

Start representing the folks back home who sent you to Washington in the first place. Time is running out to start fixing the problems that will be left to my children and grandchildren to deal with.

It's time to stop politicking and time to get things done.

Emails are good - votes are better.

Most congresspersons, once they are initially elected, seem to hang on forever. That 2-year job becomes 14-18-22-26 etc. before you know it. The excuse is that the more years the person spends in Congress, the more "pork" they can bring home.

Sadly, almost all of them spend more social and work time in the DC area to the point they become DC-ites and lose almost all relationship to whichever district elected them. Sometimes, I think without Google Earth, they would know were that home district is.

There's been many cried for term limits - we don't need them. Just don't keep voting for the incumbent.

Good point. If the name on the ballot is an incumbent, vote for someone else.

I started reading Dick Morris' book Outrage and it didn't take very long for me to get outraged. The changes for reform promised in the last Congressional Elections changed nothing except the names on a few Post Office Buildings.

I think we should add 1 more item to this list.......................Tell our representatives in Washington to STOP paying farmers to not plant in their fields, and tell these farmers to plant corn, soybeans, or other vegetables to pay their own way.

Thought you might like to know that I did receive an email reply and it follows.

Dear XXXXX:

I am as frustrated as you are about the rapid increase in gas prices the country is experiencing. As I travel throughout the eight counties that encompass the 5th District, I know how painful it is to fill up a gas tank even once a week.

I have energy proposals that take into consideration this country's short-term energy needs as well as its long-term goals. I have a plan that utilizes our country's abundant natural resources so that we do not have to beg OPEC nations to increase their production when times get tough. Additionally, my energy plans will lead this country towards an independent energy future.

In the short-term, America needs to tackle the devastatingly high cost of gasoline. This is not only hurting our wallets, it is crippling our economy. To do this I have taken three major steps. The first is to support the drilling for oil and natural gas in the United States, which is why I cosponsored a number of bills that open previously restricted areas to responsible drilling.

In the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) the United States Geological Survey (USGS) estimates that there is over 10.4 billion barrels of recoverable oil. In the Gulf of Mexico, the USGS estimates that there are over 3.6 billion barrels of oil and over 21 trillion cubic feet of natural gas that are currently of limits. In total, the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) is estimated to contain more than 88 billion barrels of oil and approximately 420 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. While opening these areas to energy exploration would surely make a dramatic impact, they do not include the estimated 8 trillion barrels of oil shale locked up in the Green River Formation, which encompasses parts of Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming. To put these numbers in perspective Saudi Arabia's proven oil reserves are at 259 billion barrels.

The second short-term solution focuses on building new refineries and increasing the capacity of current refineries. Because of bureaucratic red tape, no new refineries have been built in the United States in over 30 years. This fact alone has led to a situation in which demand exceeds supply. Consequently, I cosponsored H.R. 2279 and H.R. 3089. The first bill, introduced by Congressman Joseph Pitts (R - PA), will expedite construction of new refinery capacity on closed military installations in the United States. The second bill, introduced by Congressman Mac Thornberry (R-TX), will expedite the construction of new refineries through tax incentives and by setting aside at least 10 sites for oil or natural gas refineries on federal lands.

My third short-term solution was to introduce H.R. 6183, which eliminates the tariff on ethanol imports into this country. Americans should be filling our gas tanks with the most efficient and least costly ethanol, which Brazil has been producing from sugar cane for over three decades. In fact, for every unit of petroleum used to make ethanol from Brazilian sugarcane ten units of ethanol are produced. Compare this to the energy ratio of corn ethanol, which is one unit of petroleum per 1.8 units of ethanol. It becomes clear that ethanol made only from corn is simply holding this country back.

Throughout my tenure in public service, I have always kept an open door and an open dialogue with my constituents. As Congress addresses the many challenges facing our nation, I hope you will continue to share your thoughts and views with me. Accordingly, I encourage you to visit my Web site at http://brown-waite.house.gov to email me and find useful information about our 5th Congressional District.

It is my honor and privilege to serve the people of Florida's 5th Congressional District and my offices and staff are here to provide you with any assistance you may need.

Sincerely,

Ginny Brown-Waite
Member of Congress
