Default Oil?...What About Education?

People were getting their shorts in a knot about the Chinese buying up both Texas oil and expertise a few days ago. What about buying up our education?

An article in this morning's USA TODAY described how U.S. colleges and universities are actively recruiting foreign students to come here and study. Already, one out of five U.S. college students are here studying on temporary visas. The percentage is much higher among those seeking advanced degrees, particularly in math, the sciences and medicine. The U.S. doesn't grant citizenship or work visas very easily, so presumably all these smart, well-educated kids go back home with their U.S.-provided education to do what? Work for employers that are competing with us and providing jobs offshore that were formerly performed here.

What, we can't find enough smart, motivated American kids to fill the incoming classes of our colleges and graduate schools? Oh, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked that question.

This issue makes the importance of the Chinese buying up some oil reserves pale by comparison.

Hmmm!....And we wonder why we need an interpreter when we see our doctors in the Villages....Certainly would like to see education as our TOP priority!
