Alan Dershowitz Rips Charges Against Baltimore Cops: ‘Sad Day for Justice’ | Mediaite

Well know liberal law professor Alan Dershowitz really went after Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby today for charging the six cops involved in the death of Freddie Gray, saying it was entirely based on politics and “crowd control.”

Dershowitz lamented that “this is a very sad day for justice” and told Steve Malzberg that Mosby acted out of a “desire to prevent riots.” It will be “virtually impossible,” he predicted, for the six officers involved to get a fair trial.

And as for murder charges, Dershowitz said there’s “no plausible, hypothetical, conceivable case for murder” and “this is a show trial.” He predicted that Mosby might get removed as prosecutor and Baltimore citizens may get upset if and/or when they “move to a place with a different demographic.”

He concluded that it’s “unlikely they’ll get any convictions in this case” and if they do they’ll likely “be reversed on appeal.”

Alan Dershowitz is not privy to the police report that was released to the DA on Thursday or to the DA's investigator's report, so knows no more than what has been reported in the press. As a law professor, he should have more confidence in the judicial system and allow these cases to work their way through the courts.

Dershowitz is a defense attorney. It is his job to see all defendants as innocent, see Simpson, OJ as an example.

According to the Fox News site, their commentary says the cops heard Gray say he could not breathe but did nothing to help, they failed to buckle him in the van, and most likely gave him the "rough ride" to shake him up. Manslaughter means a death occurred but was not intended.

Do I hear a plea bargain in the near future?

Although you should be competent enough to do your own research, read what Gretchen Carlson wrote and it is not a long stretch to the rough ride scenario.

If there were two other similar situations in Baltimore police vans, the inference is definitely there.

I was very surprised to read the Gretchen Carlson opinion that paddy wagons should have cameras inside of them to monitor what happened during the transport of the arrestee.

It seems as though Baltimore had one "rough ride" in which the arrestee was paralyzed as a parapelegic and another "rough ride" where the prisoner became a quadripeligic.

The camera would be able to see how injuries were caused - as the Baltimore cops first tried saying that Freddie Gray did this to himself.

He's a Harvard Law Professor, and one of the acknowledged experts in the field. You know you can't simply dismiss his points by saying what you did ... even you though you gave it a good try.

This is turning into a politically motivated prosecution, by a politically ambitious prosecutor, and for which there is no legal merit for the various charges. 2nd degree murder ... are you kidding???

I'm not saying some of the cops involved are without some level of culpability, but this is becoming a lynch mob to satiate the excitable underclass, along with guilt stricken liberals too I guess.

2nd degree murder is too much of a charge. It implies that there was intent to kill.

Manslaughter is the probable charge as there does not have to be intent to kill - just that someone was killed.

There are lots of other charges that will be filed but manslaughter is the most serious that can bring prison time and for a cop, prison time is not fun.

One report I heard on CNN indicated that there was a camera in the van but that it had been broken for quite a while and was in need of repair .

Homicide is the taking the life of someone at the hands of another. It's not always illegal, self-defense, justifiable, etc.
