Should the Virginia College kid in North Korea be released, sentenced to 15 years of hard time or we should give up something to get him released? What will Obama do and what would Trump do?
position one:
Of course it was a prank. Those are our values therefore they should be North Korea's values since we are on vacation.
position two
When in Rome......
Fifteen years of hard time.
position three
What kind of a stupid college administrator puts stupid college kids in harm's way? Put the ******* who decided college kids always use good judgement all the time in jail for fifteen years.
Which position is conservative, liberal or something that feels like common sense.?

And this the judgement of our young voters. Go figure.
Obama should do nothing. When the supreme leader fails at negotiation, it makes him appear weak. A consular officer should be sent in to see if he can negotiate a lighter sentence. That country has a very hard culture and they think of Americans as all being rich and spoiled. We should not trade anything in negotiating his release and he should definitely have to pay for this offense. This is an insult to their country as well as a theft/larceny. If they do release him, he should be punished back here, also.
I have had to negotiate the release from jail for our sailors at times when I worked for an Embassy. Foreign nationals look at ALL Americans as rich and spoiled. Some offenses seem trivial to us, but major insults to other cultures. An example is the slight of crossing one's legs and showing the other person the sole of your shoe while in conversation in a certain foreign country.
I am sure that this kid will learn his lesson. I hope he will not have to endure an extended stay in one of their prisons. He probably wouldn't make it.
