Default GAO reports that USA has a single field with 200 years of oil.

We keep hearing from the current occupant of the "people's house" that we cannot "drill ourselves out of foreign oil dependency"

The GAO (Government Accountability Office) tells Congress the Green River Formation out West contains an "amount about equal to the entire world's proven oil reserves. The problem is, Obama is keeping it "locked up".

Strangely, Obama says this oil does not count as a "proven" reserve because little drilling has been done. But as GAO officials testified; "The federal government is in a unique position to influence the development of oil shale because 72% of the oil shale within the Green River Formation lies beneath federal lands managed by BLM (Bureau of Land Management)."

While Obama says we can't drill our way to energy independence, he blocks drilling wherever he can.

When he can't, as in the Bakken Formation in North Dakota, the economy booms, and new jobs abound, as oil is extracted from shale on private and state lands.

The administration has designated 94% of federal on-shore lands, and 97% of off-shore lands as off-limits to drilling.

In the Green River Formation alone, if by drilling we could recover only half of the 3 TRILLION barrels of oil there, that would be equal to the entire world's proven reserves.

Just think about that; and that's only one oil field at our disposal.

OK how about we accept for the sake of argument we cannot drill our way out of the dependence on foreign oil...how about showing some progress by allowing pursuit of what apparently is an abundant resource...you know like Putin is doing in Russia.

A golden opportunity to make a mark on the world of energy...creating more jobs...sending a signal to our enemies world wide we do not need their oil...starting perhaps a new industrial revolution that would go a long way toward getting this country on track.

Now even for you Obama loyalists, are you not interested in why this option is not being pursued.

Default not being pursued

it is not being pursued because it has the potential to create jobs, get people off food stamps, unemployment and dependency on govt and boost our economy, all of which goes counter to the liberal left agenda of making the united states just another mediocre member of a one-world govt, distributing the wealth after govt is in charge of everything. i know most moderate democrats will not believe this, but study Agenda 21. the green movement, sustainability, etc etc are all buzz words for worldwide regulations, giving up our national sovereignty, our property rights, and our individual rights in favor of the collective "good".

Has anybody taken the time to read the comments at the bottom of that article? There are many, many articles about this on various energy and industry blog websites as well as on professional engineering websites.

Spending $10 to earn a return of $5 is good business practice to a Con.

That's right, Cons don't believe in science and those who aspire to go to college are snobs.

Amazing .....

Some folks dream of Flintstone mobiles. Let's drill some oil, create jobs and new technologies to get this oil.
