Yes, I understand the difference. But, with regard to gun registration, there is no discernible difference in desired outcomes.

I think the Orlando shooting makes your point. That doesn't mean to me anyway that registration can't be fixed.

So, how would registering my handgun 'help prevent' me from killing someone?

I don't know how it would help you prevent killing someone. You've given this a lot of thought.

And you and the rest of the liberals...haven't.

Your favorite victim besides yourselves, the blacks, hispanics, are responsible for the VAST majority of violence, shootings, and murder in general.

When will you let us begin a TRUTHFUL, FACTUAL discussion about them and their effect on society?

This post sounds like you watched the entire Death Wish series with Charles Bronson. There are two very different ways to look at this. Your thinking seems to mirror the NRA's supporting more guns and ammo available with very little oversight will take care of crime. I am not a liberal and probably own as many handguns as you but strongly believe the 2nd amendment has been stretched all out of proportion and has made the United States a shooting gallery. Handguns should be registered, a very liberal stop and frisk law enacted regardless of personal rights, and permitting to carry a concealed weapon be more in depth. None of these would prevent so called "good guys" from obtaining and carrying a handgun. I don't know how in hell getting control over all the handguns already out there in the wrongs hands is going to be accomplished but I know flooding the country with more guns is not the answer. Maybe you're ok with your wife, children, grandchildren, etc all carrying a handgun but that is not a community I want to live in. Just another opinion.

Apparently not, if you are applauding.

He doesn't realize that he is taking the liberal side of the debate. That makes him a liberal, regardless of what his party affiliation is. It's OK for him to have a gun, but he does not wish anyone else to have one. He feels threatened by anyone else have control of a firearm. He doesn't care about anyone else around him, therefore he takes the exact position of a liberal.
