I have two African American nephews through a recent marriage who have names like Obama-- Kalil and Bilal. Bilal is from the Arabic-- http://baby-names.adoption.com/search/Bilal.html Funny thing is that you are probably going to start seeing a lot of babies with the name Obama whether or not Senator Barack Obama wins the White House this year. |
Re: Great Obama Web Site
My daughter's boyfriend is named Amir. Luckily she lives in Chicago and they both are very well educated with educated friends so it is no hassle.
I agree that names are changing...I think it is good but some people just have to learn and open their minds. Amir comes from a family of all Doctors with names like Mike and Steve! He is a super nice guy! So nice talking to you! |
Re: Great Obama Web Site
My son-in-law (0f 12 years,African by birth, American by citizenship) is also a really great guy. Wouldn't trade him for anyone. He and my daughter and family met Barack Obama last month. My granddaughter's name is Léa (pronounced Lay-Ah) Barack told her her name was almost like his daughter's which is Malea(sp?). He talked to both Léa age 8 and her 6 year old brother. When she called me, Léa said, "I talked to Barack Obama, Grandma, he is soooo nice."
I realize this is not a reason to vote for him, but thought I'd share my story. |

"Muhammad" is the number one boys name for newborns in Great Britain, and the great majority are Muslim. I agree that "niceness" and simply "a name" have little to do with a person's fitness for president or whether they fit the mold of "terrorist", "fanatic", or "traitor."* There have been some very "nice" terrorists and fanatics.* It just so happens that the great majority in the past decade have had Muslim names.* There are many other more important qualities and aspects of an individual that indicate their tendencies under various conditions.* When it comes to a President, we need to discover as many of these as possible.* Some call it "judgemental."* I call it "discernment" and "prudence."* Some people don't like prudence, and thus the term "prude" was born.* So goes human nature. |
Re: Great Obama Web Site
That would be Divine Retrobution, Mucci, you little woofer! LOLOL I love your daughter! ;D

Re: Great Obama Web Site
What office will Al Sharpton, the right rev, and Jessie Jackson have in Obama's administration? After GWB and the Iraq fiasco I had decided, before the primaries, that I would most certainly vote for the democrat's nominee and then they come up with Obama. Give me a break! This guy should be a preacher not a president. If this doesn't rile up the Obama supporters nothing will.

Re: Great Obama Web Site
idj1938, your post is about as narrow minded as you can get. Nothing about you post or the Obama post in general is enough to rile anyone, because it's laughable.

Re: Great Obama Web Site
I'm no Obama supporter....but that website is just sick. Geez....I once was a Catholic but not now. So when he was a child his step father registered him as a Muslim...big deal that is much more about the stepfather than Obama.
This is nothing but a bunch of fear....somebody is always trying to tell me something I should be afraid of. The Red(s), The Gay(s) and now Obama. |
Re: Great Obama Web Site
What is the biggest drag about politics and especially the election for President is the money they're
spending just to get their name out there. Just think of all the people that may be just middle-class and may have incredible attributes. Just venting. |
Re: Great Obama Web Site
mucci, you are being ganged up on and i want to say that i agree with your views wholeheartedly. no offense to almost everyone else! i have mexican-american and future african-american grandchildren, also, but that has nothing to do with what i think is dangerous about this particular man. and he did choose his muslim name!
|
Re: Great Obama Web Site
Mucci has made his position many times. People are not ganging up on anybody. They have a right to their views. I agree with Red and Chels on this. Those websites are just :edit:
Listen to the news. The gas prices keep going up...hitting everyone from airlines, truckers, farmers, working people very hard. The foreclosures of homes continue and house prices are still dropping. Unemployment is going higher and higher. Our nation's debt is getting larger and larger as we spend more and more in Iraq. All this under Republican Bush. You keep putting out Republican spin websites ...as though this will change anybody's mind. Believe me intelligent people know how many lies have been told and those websites won't change their minds. They listen to mainstream news not Republican spin. |

So, if someone really want to get to "the truth," it requires a lot of effort to get information from multiple (especially, competing) sources, sift out the hyperbole, and actually analyze the remainder. Anything less is just following the Pied Piper down whatever path s/he's going, and basing credibility on Nielsen ratings. I'm not thrilled with several aspects of the current administration, but let's also remember: 1) World War One, 2) World War Two, 3) Korea, 4) Vietnam, 5) the Bay of Pigs, 6) Iranian hostage debacle, 7) Somolia, 8 ) the Cold War, 9) dropping the Gold Standard, 10) the USS Liberty incident, and 11) the USS Pueblo incident --- All occurred during Democratic administrations. Electing a Democrat doesn't bring a stellar track record either..... |
Re: Great Obama Web Site
I love you Steve but I taught History and majored in History in college and what you said just isn't true!!!. :o
I am too busy to waste my time arguing but Steve I would call your responses Republican Spin!! Yes you are not alone. You live in a Republican community in a Republican State. You have a good day and I love ya--just don't agree with ya! :) |

I got dual BAs at the University of Nevada, Reno in History and Philosophy and often found that you needed theories to help cherry pick the facts for history and facts to support your theories in philosophy.
Senator Obama's history sure had very different cherries picked depending on what party the story teller seems to be supporting. Same with John McCain's background. |
